The Three Valleys, particularly the Courchevel resorts, have long been a favourite with families - and for good reason too! The Courchevel valley with its 4 different villages has extensive slopes, a plethora of different accommodation and facilities and great snow management and fast lifts. Each Courchevel resort has its own personality and a family will find much to love in each of them.
The Courchevel Valley will often keep a family of all ski ranges happy for a whole week without ever having to venture out to the rest of the three valleys. There are 9 free beginner lifts (at least one in each village).
The main Village of Courchevel at 1850m is the main hub and now boasts the best of the hotels and the swankiest of Chalets. The La Croisette lift station serves the wide bowl here which has many wide green runs, some blues and red runs which all lead down to this central point. The Jardin Alpin lift also serves the hotels and chalets which are situated right on the piste and which are ski in and out so very convenient indeed for families. There’s many ski schools to choose from some of which include childcare too when your child is not in lessons.
The village itself has few leisure facilities for families and therefore choosing a hotel with pool or play facilities for those with your families is a must. There is an impressive new leisure centre which has been added recently between Courchevel 1550 and 1650 is accessible by bus and maybe also by lift by the time you stay in resort. There’s a great toboggan run from 1850 down to 1550.
Over to the far left of the three valleys sits Courchevel 1650 or Moriond as it has now been named. This is one of the friendliest family resorts to stay in. The wide gentle nursery slopes above the town are ideal and the special quiet piste for families the ‘Indiens’ blue run has various animations for children to encourage their route down the slope.
There are many hotels and chalets available in this friendly town where prices for après ski are more sensible when compared to the swanky Courchevel 1850. Many operators offer in house childcare here.
Courchevel 1550 (now known as Courchevel village) is smaller in size than its immediate neighbours of 1850 and 1650 but ski convenience is great making it very easy to get up to Courchevel 1850 in the fast bubble or you can ski down too on mainly gentle runs.
Courchevel Le Praz lies at 1250m and has excellent links up to the vast ski area. This village is one of the prettiest with a cobblestoned centre and quaint little chalets. There’s a ski school here for children with small nursery area.
Courchevel La Tania is situated over to the right hand side of the valley closest to the Meribel side. This pretty wooded resort is at 1350m with mainly chalet accommodation although there are some self catered chalet and apartments and a small handful of hotels. The centre is pedestrianised, small and friendly and a red, blue and winding green run lead down to the bottom. These wooded runs are particularly good in bad weather and the fast lift is great for getting you up on to the ridge to turn left to the main Courchevel valley or further afield to the right to explore the rest of the three valleys. Some of our chalets in this resort have childcare options but they tend to be booked early especially in school holiday times so early booking is advisable.... Read more
