Saalbach now forms part of the largest linked ski area in Austria. It covers skiing in Hinterglemm (4km up the valley) and Fieberbrunn (now connected with a new ski lift) and offers a combined ski area of 270km of pistes, serviced by 100% fast lifts. All the older slower lifts have now been replaced. Saalbach is located at 1000m but the ski range is between 830m to 2095m.
Saalbach is an intermediate skiers’ paradise, the slopes are ideal, with wide sunny slopes and lots of tree-lined runs, so Saalbach is good, even on bad weather days. Beginners will likethe resorts two nursery slopes and the progression slopes are excellent. Expert skiers won’t find too many challenges in Saalbach, some of the blacks are steep enough, the trouble is, there aren’t enough of them.
Since the old drag lifts have gone, Saalbach is exciting snowboarders again, and is a good all-round resort for boarders of all levels. Another bonus is that the off-piste snow hangs around longer than it does elsewhere.
