Hotel Theodul wins the Ski Line ski hotel of the year 2016/17
13th May 2016
In the spring the team at Ski Line get advance notice of the new hotels that are about to come on to the British ski market for the first time for British skiers to enjoy. We scramble to make sure that we haven’t missed any of the good ones and to give our clients the heads up on the best hotels we think you should be booking for the coming season.
This year, there is a clear winner for us, it’s the Hotel Theodul in Lech. The hotel will from this year be run operated by VIP chalets a tour operator that we have enjoyed working with for the past 21 years and one whom we hold in very high regard. Lech is a ski resort that we struggle to find enough good and affordable hotels in and we can see this hotel is going to be popular.
To launch this fabulous hotel, we are offering an exclusive £50 saving per person on any week between 8th January to the 5th of Feb 2017. You won’t get this extra discount elsewhere so if this hotel is of interest you need to come back to us before the end of June 2016 when this offer ends.
VIP chalets have signed a full commercial lease with the owners, a family who up until this year had successfully operated this 4* hotel themselves. A quick peak at Trip advisor reviews of the hotel Theodul proves they were very good hoteliers and we know that the reputation they built up over 30 years will be in very safe hands with VIP chalets and their team of British staff when the hotel opens again in December 2016 under its new management team.
The family owners Martina and Dietmar Walsh have two sons who are very good skiers, unsurprisingly after growing up in one of Austria’s most prestigious ski resorts! They are so good in fact that they are on the cusp of making it into the Austrian ski team, so the family have swapped hotel life for a life on the road following their two sons ski careers as pro ski racers and are passing the baton onto VIP chalets.
Hotel Theodul is perfectly located within a 3-minute walk to the ski lifts in the center of the village and is a very welcome addition to our collection of ski chalets and hotels in Lech.
The Arlberg region is all set to become all singing and dancing next season as the region has announced earlier this year a 45 million Euro investment which will see 4 new lifts linking Zurs over on the Lech side of the Arlberg to Stuben on the St Anton side. This is a long awaited investment and will make the whole region easily accessible without the need to hop on a bus.
The Stuben to Zurs lift will be called the Flexenbhan and will consist of gondolas capable of holding 10 people for the 6-minute journey and will whisk 2400 people per hour up the mountain. The Arlberg region will also launch a route called the ‘Run Of Fame’ which will have skiers doing a 65km circuit around the area whilst descending 18,000m of vertical from Wrath up on the northern sector through to Lech and then over to St Anton and Rendl using the new flex lift.
Previous winners of the Ski Line ski hotel of the year include the Club Med Sensations in Val Thorens and the former 5* hotel Le Savoie in Val d’Isere now operated by Inghams as one of their platinum chalet hotels. Both these hotels continue to be very popular with clients and the feedback has been exceptional.
