Music In The Mountains

Music festivals have become an increasingly popular feature of ski holidays, particularly towards the end of the season.

What were once destinations known primarily for snow sports have evolved into gathering places for music fans of all genres. The majority of events are free to enter or free to anyone who has a resort lift pass.

The combination of indoor and outdoor venues, plus breathtaking mountain backdrops, has made ski resorts a natural home for music events both large and small.

Here is a rundown of some of the music festivals taking place during the remainder of the season.

Tignes – France

Mountain Shaker. 14–21 March

In Tignes, Mountain Shaker involves DJs and live music in bars, on terraces, and other open-air locations throughout the resort. The festival adds a party atmosphere to spring skiing when the village holds a week-long celebration both on and off the slopes.

Rock the Pistes Festival. 15–21 March

Rock the Pistes once again turns the slopes into open-air stages. Skiers and snowboarders can ride lifts by day and then attend free concerts on the mountain from Morzine to Avoriaz. There will be a blend rock, pop, and global sounds.

Kitzbuhel- Austria

Electronic Boutique Festival Sound | Escape 20 – 22 March

The Electronic Boutique Festival Sound | Escape will take place for the first time at the Kitzbüheler Horn. Set high above the town, the three-day festival promises unforgettable moments, with CLAPTONE confirmed as the headline act. Admission is free, and the festival combines electronic music, mountain scenery, and late season skiing and snowboarding.

Les Arcs – France

Electronic Peak Festival. 25–27 March

At Les Arcs, electronic music takes over the mountains performed on high-altitude stages. The Electronic Peak festival features DJ line-ups and late-season skiing and snowboarding in a futuristic, alpine club atmosphere.

In the Zillertal Alps, Snowbombing transforms Mayrhofen into one of Europe’s biggest ski-music festivals. Skiing and snowboarding by day is followed by the opportunity to enjoy world-class DJs, mountaintop parties, street parades, and late-night club events.

Zermatt – Switzerland

Zermatt Unplugged. April 7–11 April

Set beneath the Matterhorn, Zermatt Unplugged offers acoustic, folk, and singer-songwriter performances which take place in cosy venues and mountain locations.

Sölden’s Electric Mountain Festival combines glacier skiing and snowboarding with large-scale electronic music performances. International DJs perform on high-altitude stages, creating a late-season party atmosphere et against dramatic alpine scenery.

Val Thorens – France

Cosmic Mountain Festival. 17–19 April

At Europe’s highest ski resort, the Cosmic Mountain Festival closes the season with electronic music, DJs, and open-air alpine stages. The event blends altitude, spring snow, and futuristic soundscapes as the resort heads towards the end of the season.

Ischgl – Austria
