Switzerland Ski Resort Guide

Why Switzerland?

Switzerland has long been a favourite of the British skier. Its traditional old style high ski resorts boast some of the most spectacular skiing in the world. The mountain villages have long since turned from farming villages and spa resort into all year round destinations with awesome skiing in the winter months. There are many resorts to choose from most being traditional in style with many having historic cable cars and quaint mountain railways. If you want old time authenticity with stunning vistas this certainly is the place to be.

Popular Swiss Ski Resorts

Zermatt has to be one of the most stunning villages and ski area. If you have a bucket list – put Zermatt on it now! The high snow sure extensive slopes, the top notch mountain restaurants, the nightlife, the pretty village stacked with top hotels, the links to Cervinia in Italy and the awesome heli-skiing are just some of the reasons why.

Verbier has serious skiing and some very serious accommodation. If luxury chalets are your thing you have a plethora here to choose from with incredible facilities, cuisine and service. The 4 valleys of Verbier link Verbier to Nendaz, Thyon and Veysonaz. Sitting at 1500m slopes run up to 3330m with 92 lifts and 412km of pistes with lots of off piste too.

We’ve all heard of Klosters and Davos and many of us will have skied here on their extensive shared slopes. Klosters is the domain of the royals and the hotels and chalets here are suitably upmarket to match. The resorts themselves are low however there are reliable cable cars to take you up to the heights of 2845m to cruise the mainly intermediate and advanced runs.

One of our most popular resorts in Switzerland is Saas-Fee which has some of the highest skiing (3500m) in Switzerland and is therefore pretty snow sure. It’s an attractive resort best suited to intermediate and beginner skiers.

Murren and Wengen sit across the valley floor from each other and both are traditional, charming little villages. Sir Arnold Lunn virtually invented modern downhill skiing and back in 1922 he organised the first ever slalom race. Both are popular with British skiers looking for a quiet old fashioned sedate skiing in leisurely paced attractive villages.

St Moritz is probably one of the most famous exclusive ski resorts in the word, it doesn’t disappoint if you are looking for glamour and glitz and awesome views, the lakes along the valleys are wonderful and the peaks awe inspiring, the skiing is pretty good too! A resort for shopping or window shopping, people watching and cresta running!

Après Ski In Swiss Ski Resorts

Après ski in Switzerland is up market rather than lively. Zermatt probably has a little bit of something for everyone though. Verbier attracts a younger well-heeled crowd, you need to head for Pub Mont-Fort of the Farinet which will help to sooth the pocket a little more than the famous lively ‘Farm’ club where celeb spotting and champagne quaffing are the norm.
