Courchevel announces a dedicated handicapped ski area
The Paralympics in London in 2012 raised the profile of disabled people in the UK to a whole new level and our second place in the medals table in Brazil this summer with 147 medals which included 64 gold medals, 39 silver and 44 bronze medals was a remarkable achievement by our disabled athletes.
We are delighted to see Courchevel and the Three Valleys has made such a huge investment in getting its ski lifts and infrastructure right for people with mobility issues, this new dedicated “handiski” area is seen as the next step, after all, skiing is a sport that is suitable for all.
The new area is to be located in the Zen area close to Parlong quarter and will be shared by Courchevel 1850, 1650 and the ESF who have trained 12 instructors. The Parlong quarter was chosen because of its easy access to the road and has specially located parking spaces close to the two specially adapted ski tows and as well as the 6 seater chair lifts that been designed to take a sit ski.
If you are looking for suitable accommodation for yourself as a disabled skier or have a disabled person in your group, contact our sales team and we will find somewhere that is suitable. We can arrange transfers from the airport to the ski resort via specially adapted coaches and minibuses. All we need to know is the level of disability and the width of any wheelchair so we can ensure access to your chalet or hotel.
