The Thinking Skiers 3 Valleys Skiing
15th June 2016
We simply adore the skiing in the 3 valleys, it’s the biggest and best linked ski area anywhere. While the Yanks try to confuse the issue of ski area size by quoting hectares of ski area, even the biggest American ski resorts is tiny compared to the Trios Vallees ski domain. With 600km of slopes to explore, that’s more than even the keenest of mile crunchers could achieve in a week plus there’s the acres of wonderful off piste skiing to be found too.
The 3 valleys is of course home to some big named ski resorts such as Courchevel, Meribel and Val Thorens but these big names attract the crowds too. For many of these skiers St Martin de Belleville is just a stop off for lunch on one of the 6 days skiing to avoid the higher prices in the better known resorts.
Not all of us want to be in the après ski bars until 4am or at the end of the day having to pick your way through the 1000’s of others skiers heading home, so if want a big ski area but not a big resort St Martin de Belleville is an excellent choice.
Rather than being just a ski resort, St Martin de Belleville is a real traditional mountain village, rather like how I imagine Meribel once was. The off piste skiing around the slopes are excellent too.
Located at 1400m below Les Menuires it’s dominated by the 16th century church (floodlit at night) and there are some wonderful ski chalets to book. We particularly like the chalet Ecurie but then so too did a lot of you who stayed here last winter as it has been nominated this year as best new ski chalet in the Snow awards 2016.
If you are need any help in choosing the best places to stay in St Martin de Belleville or any of the other ski villages in this wonderful ski area, we are sure to be able to help.
