Zermatt warns….Don’t cross this bridge, unless you have a good head for heights
This newly opened suspension bridge is the Longest in the world and at 494m long and only 65cm wide hikers have been warned not to cross unless you have a very good head for heights! At its highest, the bridge is 85m above the ground. For the nervous, the problem is compounded by an open grated footway which allows hikers to see through the floor of the bridge to the ground below!
The bridge, is located near Randa and creating a connection between Grächen and Zermatt along the Europaweg hiking route, a popular route with summer hikers.
The Europaweg offers a 2-day hike between Grächen to Zermatt, it runs between 1,600m and 2,200m above sea level, high above the deepest cut valley in Switzerland.
The route takes in some of the most spectacular scenery in the Alps with views of the most famous mountain in Switzerland, the Matterhorn, and Weisshorn in the Bernese Alps including the highest mountains in Switzerland (Dom 4,545 m) to walkers.
We understand the bridge will not be open during the ski season. Zermatt is one of Switzerland’s most popular ski resorts for intermediate and expert skiers.
