Why UK Visitors Love Skiing in Méribel, France

A Gem Found

Méribel is a gem cradled in the middle of the Trois Vallees, or Three Valleys. The Valleys hold the record for being the world’s largest ski area and Méribel sits at the centre. The great expanse of white and the beautiful mountains are a real treat for the eyes. Mont Vallon stands guard nearby and offers a majestic backdrop to the entire scene.

Méribel was first discovered as an alternative resort in 1939 by Scotsman Peter Lindsay. He wanted to distance his ski resort from troubled Germany and Austria. Since then, it has developed into the beautiful ski resort he originally imagined the place would be.

Plenty of Runs

With 76 runs, skiers are spoilt for choice. Boasting beginner, intermediate and challenging slopes, it is a resort for skiers of all skill levels, indeed there are some choice runs for ambitious skiers. In addition, the snow quality remains high all year round. The mountain blocks the wind, resulting in better snow on the slopes. Some of the pistes begin at nearly 3000 metres, making them great for skiing all year round.

An Olympic Centre

Sports fans will love visiting the Olympic Centre built here for the 1992 Winter Games. The complex includes fitness centres, a water slide, children’s pool, a spa and even a climbing wall. For the daring, relive the Olympic Downhill Run situated just nearby.

Méribel is one of the best ski resorts you might visit. Aside from the skiing, there is also a lot of Méribel to explore. Just three kilometres away is the Méribel Village, a laid-back town with its own selection of bars and restaurants. Three kilometres up you will find the Méribel Mottarot, the highest point in the resort with sparse accommodation and just a few select apartments.

Here at Ski Line, we offer a wide variety of options for chalets in Méribel. Whether it’s your first time in Trois Vallees or a returning visitor, spending sometime in this paradise is a great way to holiday.
