26th October 2015
We all dream of a white Christmas, stay at home in the UK and your chances of a white Christmas are very small, officially there were only 7 white Christmas’s recorded in the UK in the last Century. If you live in Scotland the chances are a little higher.
Choose Val d’Isere for a white Christmas and it’s about 100% sure you will get one. Val d’Isere will be all dressed up at Christmas to draw in skiers and snowboarders with Christmas lights, decorated Christmas trees, carol services, ice carvings, a firework display and of course, Father Christmas always makes an appearance on Christmas Eve.
There also a very good chance to see 100’s of Santa’s on the slopes during your stay. Chances are if you choose Val d’Isere for your Christmas ski trip it will be a catered chalet that you choose for your accommodation. Ski Line have 154 catered ski chalets in Val d’Isere at prices to suit every budget, from a Russian billionaire to group of students escaping the family Christmas for the first time.
A ski chalet in Val d’Isere will be your home from home for the week of festive fun. The chalet staff will have decorated the chalets Christmas tree ready for your arrival. However, if you prefer to do this yourself or let your children do it, let us know in advance and we can arrange this for you.
Your chalet host will cook a traditional Christmas meal, we can request this to be at lunchtime if you prefer however our advice would be to dine in the evening if you can, as Christmas day on the slopes is just magical, the slopes are empty and all the lifts will be running. It’s not uncommon for skiers to make first tracks on even the most popular ski run in Val d’Isere, such as the OK piste or Madeleine at 11:00 or even later on Christmas day.
Hotels in Val d’Isere for Christmas
If you prefer a hotel to a chalet, there are plenty of excellent hotels to choose in Val d’Isere. These hotels Include the new chalet hotel Le Savoir which is a 5* hotel now run by a British tour operator. We voted this our ski hotel of the year 2016.
The beautiful St Bernard de Menthon church in the very centre of the old town of Val d’Isere dates back to 1664 and holds Christmas services in French and English over the Christmas period. In the days before skiing in Val d’Isere before 1932, the menfolk would leave Val d’Isere in the winter months for work further below the valley, leaving the woman and children to look after the animals as back then Val d’Isere would be completely cut off. Today with modern snow clearing its very rare for the roads to be blocked by snow for long.
