What’s New in Pila for Winter 2025

A Gondola, a Glacier View, and a Dash of Italian Flair

The Italian ski resort of Pila, nestled high above the Aosta Valley, is stepping into Winter 2025 with style. With sleek new lifts, sustainable upgrades, and an eye on the future, this hidden gem of the Italian Alps is shaping up to be one of the most exciting ski destinations in Italy this season.

The New Couis 1 Gondola: Comfort Meets Alpine Adventure

The biggest news this winter is the brand-new 10-seater Couis 1 gondola, which made its debut in December 2024. Replacing the old chairlift, this modern addition whisks skiers to Pila’s panoramic heights in just minutes. Expect a smoother, warmer, and faster ride to some of the resort’s best red and black runs.

A new piste now links Couis 1 to Couis 2, creating a more fluid mountain experience for confident intermediates and advanced skiers chasing perfect turns under blue Italian skies.

Coming in December 2025: The Pila–Couis Lift and “Stella di Pila” Refuge

If you love high-altitude skiing in Italy, Pila is about to get even better. Construction is underway on the new Pila–Couis lift and the stunning “Stella di Pila” mountain refuge, both due to open in December 2025.
The vision? To make the 4,000m peaks that frame the Aosta Valley, including Mont Blanc, the Matterhorn, Monte Rosa, and Gran Paradiso, accessible to all. Whether you’re skiing or simply soaking in the views, this project will turn the summit into one of the most spectacular vantage points in the Italian Alps.

Sustainability with Style

Pila isn’t just investing in lifts, it’s investing in the future. Both the new Couis 1 gondola and the Stella di Pila refuge are being built using eco-friendly materials and energy-efficient technology, setting a benchmark for sustainable ski resorts in Italy.

And when it’s time for lunch? Expect gourmet dining with a view. The Funivie Monte Bianco team, known for their Skyway Monte Bianco culinary experiences, will oversee the food concept, so you can sip a prosecco or a rich Italian hot chocolate surrounded by Michelin-level flair and jaw-dropping Alpine scenery.

A Fresh Take on the Couis 1 Red Run

Advanced skiers will love the revamped red run No. 9, now extended to flow more naturally into the improved Couis area. With Pila’s pistes reaching up to 2,800m and a predominantly north-facing orientation, snow conditions here stay reliably crisp all season, perfect for carving from first chair to last.

Aosta in 20 Minutes: From Slopes to City

One of the best things about skiing in Pila is its unique city-to-summit connection. The gondola from Aosta town takes you straight to the slopes in just 20 minutes. That means you can ski all day, then wander among Roman ruins, sip Italian wine in cosy bars, or sample local Aosta Valley cuisine, all before heading back to your mountain-side hotel.

Why Ski Pila This Winter

  • Fast new lift access to high-altitude terrain
  • Sustainable, future-focused ski resort development
  • World-class mountain views without the mega-resort crowds
  • Easy access from Aosta – city and ski in one trip
  • Perfect for confident intermediates and adventurous families
