7 alternatives to ‘ski resort Ground Hog’ week!

Are you fed up with skiing the same ski runs, eating and drinking in the same places and staying at the same hotel or ski chalet?  You either need to find new friends to ski with or choose a different ski resort for this year’s ski holiday!

Is Your Ski Group Stuck In A Rut?Every skier and snowboarder has a favourite ski resort, mine is Val d’Isere and it seems it’s a favourite with a lot of you too as Val d’Isere has consistently been our #1 selling ski destination for, well, forever!

In Val d’Isere, I know every ski run, where to find the best snow, where not to eat, how to avoid the slow lifts and which bars I like.  However I wouldn’t want to ski here every year! I like new experiences more than just familiar ones.

I’ve always had empathy with our group leaders, these are the friends in the group who every year are nominated by the rest to organise and arrange the annual ski trip. I know it’s a thankless task, as I’m the group leader on my groups ski trip.  The best trips I have arranged for my friends are the new ski resorts none of us have skied before, it’s fun finding the best runs in a new ski resort.

Val d’Isere Ground Hog day!

It can take an eternity to just get everyone to agree on a date, let alone a destination, a chalet or hotel or even a budget.  Sometimes the easy option is to simply go back to the same ski resort.   So should the group leader make the task even harder by trying to convince the group to try something new? …………………..Most defiantly yes!

Here are 7 great alternatives to another week in Val d’Isere

(or whichever is your groups Ground hog ski resort)

  1. Ischgl, Austria

Outstanding night life thanks in part to its Pasha night club, (as in Ibiza) and a ski area with 340km of piste, this makes Ischgl a wonderful alternative to the same old, same old

  1. Saalbach, Fieberbrunn, Austria

The new lift connecting Fieberbrunn and Saalbach Hinterglemm make this a real contender as the ski area is now 270km of pistes. Great choices for hotels and the night life is good too.

  1. Sauze d’Oulx, Italy

There are over 400km of piste in the Milky Way, Sauze d’Oulx is one of the best villages to stay for Italian value for money, après ski and ski area to suit all levels.

  1. Champoluc, Italy

The Monterosa ski area is Italy’s answer to the Three Valleys (but without the crowds!) with 180km of high altitude pistes and some wonderful chalet hotels offering exceptional value for money.

  1. Flaine, France

The Grand Massif is Frances 3rd largest ski area with 265km of piste and a wonderful snow record, yet few Brits ski here, we can’t understand why! Its longest ski run is 14km long, what’s not to love in Flaine?

  1. Mayrhofen, Austria

The whole ski area covers 487km of piste, (133km Local) with a massive ski range between 630m to 3250m, Mayrhofen’s night life is kicking and we have some great chalets and hotels here.

  1. El Tarter, Andorra

Andorra was a big seller last year, hardly surprising looking at its snowfall, any country that has more km of ski runs than it does motorways has got to be make on to this list. We selected El Tarter over the other Andorra resorts simply because we have some great places to stay here.
