Mind the gap between the train and the ski slopes say La Plagne
18th August 2017
The French ski resort of La Plagne is expected to announced, any day that its agreed funding of €25m to connect the railway station at Aime La Plagne directly via a gondola to the ski slopes in the heart of the La Plagne ski area.
The new gondola link could be installed in time for the start of the 2018/19 ski season.
The neighbouring ski resort of Les Arcs already has a link via a funicular between Bourg St Maurice and the Les Arcs ski runs.
Gondola connections to the skiing directly from train stations are common in Japan and last year the service from Denver to Winter Park in the USA started operating again and has proved to have been very popular.
British visitors booking a Skiing holiday via Eurostar or those travelling by TGV from Paris could be on the slopes within 4 hours 30 minutes of departing from Paris.
La Plagne and Les Arcs make up the third largest ski area in the World, known as Paradiski area and covers some 425km of groomed pistes and offers excellent off piste skiing too.
Club Med currently operate 4 all-inclusive hotels in the Paradiski ski area but will be opening a 5th at Les Arcs 1800 for the 2018/19 ski season.
