New Linga Chairlift Set to Transform Châtel for Winter 2025–26

Big news from the Portes du Soleil: Châtel is gearing up for a major upgrade next winter with the launch of a brand-new detachable six-seater chairlift in the Linga sector. Set to replace the classic 1986 gondola, this modern lift is designed to bring faster, smoother, and more comfortable mountain access for skiers and snowboarders.

A Modern Lift for a Modern Mountain

The new Linga chairlift promises a noticeable boost in comfort thanks to wider, cushioned seats and a state-of-the-art detachable system. Capacity jumps to 3,000 passengers per hour, up from 2,230. A welcome improvement on busy mornings when everyone’s chasing fresh tracks.

This upgrade forms part of Châtel’s wider vision to enhance skier experience and maintain its reputation as one of the most welcoming and forward-thinking resorts in the Portes du Soleil.

Quicker Access to the Best of the PDS

Launching in December 2025, the lift will open up the Linga area and the wider Portes du Soleil circuit faster than ever. That means smoother resort-to-resort cruising, easier laps of the area’s best terrain, and more ski time packed into every day.

Built with the Mountain in Mind

Sustainability is a major focus for this project. The number of pylons will drop from 21 to 13, and the new structures will sit lower in the landscape, reducing visual impact. A quiet, energy-efficient direct-drive motor replaces the old system, cutting hydrocarbon use entirely while reducing noise and power consumption.

A Scenic New Spot to Pause

At the top station, skiers can enjoy a newly added hors sac room with panoramic views over the valley and the village of Châtel. It’s the perfect spot to warm up, take a breather, or simply soak up the alpine scenery before heading back out.

With big improvements in comfort, speed, and sustainability, the new Linga 6-seater chairlift is set to be one of the standout upgrades in the Portes du Soleil this decade, and yet another reason Châtel remains a firm favourite for UK skiers.
