Les Crosets a Swiss ski resort that’s brilliant for Family Ski Holidays

Top on the wish list for a successful family ski adventure will be the distance from the airport to the ski resort, good safe learner slopes away from speed kings and sunny snow-sure slopes will be a consideration for families with younger children. Kids don’t do well on cold wintery ski slopes.

As parents, we are probably happy when our children are happy, but having 600km of pistes to explore is another big draw for Les Crosets which sits at 1,670m to 1,700m on a sunny plateau on the Swiss border with France. With access to one of the largest (well second or third largest for sure) ski areas in the World called Les Portes du Soliel.

The local ski runs are predominantly easy blue and a few reds up to a local altitude of 2,277m and includes a snow park. Perfect for Children and novice skiers.

Further afield with the whole of the Portes du Soliel ski area to explore, it makes sense to plan ahead, but for 2020 the new lift from Les Linarets, called the Lechere Chairlift, a fast 6 man to Les Crosets cut out a lot of hassle getting home, before the new lift was installed.

Les Crosets is a proper mountain village unscared by neon lights adverting happy hour. This is a tiny rustic ski village with only 60 full-time residents, that’s its appeal. It’s small, it’s safe and even the local ski slopes rarely get busy. That and the fact you are two lifts, 20 minutes from a point to ski down to Avoriaz on the French side of the mountain.

Where to stay in Les Crosets

The Chalet Mountain Lodge is ideal for families with a good choice of rooms which are ideal for sharing and discounts are available for room shares. Like most of the properties in Les Crosets, you can ski from the door. A Luxury once enjoyed will always be on the wish list.

The hotel has a spa with hot tubs, sauna and an indoor pool, talking of a pool, there is a pool table too, perfect for entertaining teenagers and adults. An inhouse cinema means the children will let you have a holiday too.

For the parents, we are hearing great things about the food. The half-board option promises great food and an extensive wine cellar.
