My Obergurgl Hints & Tips

After my recent trip to Obergurgl, I’ve pulled together my personal highlights, favourite mountain spots and a few insider tips to help you make the very most of your ski holiday.

Highlights

Night skiing

Every Monday, you can ski under the floodlights, and it’s included with a 6-day lift pass. Such a fun way to experience the mountain in a completely different atmosphere.

Day trip to Sölden

Your 6-day Obergurgl lift pass also covers the expansive ski area of Sölden, just 20 minutes away by bus.
If you’re feeling adventurous, take on the BIG3 Rally, a 50km ski route linking three peaks over 3,000m, with incredible panoramic views.

On a snowy day, I highly recommend a visit to the 007 Elements James Bond museum, a unique and surprisingly atmospheric experience set high in the mountains.

Tobogganing in Hochgurgl

For something different (especially in whiteout conditions), try tobogganing in Hochgurgl. Sled hire is approximately €8 per day, and you can use your lift pass for access. It’s active, great fun and perfect for families or mixed-ability groups.

Ski hire made easy

I recommend Scheiber Sport (Ski Set). When you hire your equipment, you’ll get free lockers right by the snow front, incredibly convenient. Late-night lockers are also available for a small fee if you plan to make the most of après ski.

Mountain Restaurants & Après Ski

Nederhütte – Obergurgl

A must-visit. The best Käsespätzle I found on the mountain and amazing ribs. There’s live music and lively après ski on four afternoons a week, and you can even ski down in the floodlights after dark.

Wurmkogelhütte – Hochgurgl

A cosy self-service restaurant with great food options and a relaxed atmosphere.

Top Mountain Star – Hochgurgl

Perched right at the top, this is unbeatable on a sunny day. Expect stunning photo opportunities and excellent cake.

Top Mountain Motorcycle Museum

Free entry with your lift pass and a lovely restaurant attached, ideal for a relaxed lunch stop.

Schönwieshütte – Obergurgl

A real hidden gem. You meet at the top of a chairlift and then take a skidoo ride (or are pulled behind one) to reach the restaurant. Expect excellent Austrian dishes, fantastic service and breathtaking views. It’s a memorable experience from start to finish.

S’Fassl Bar

At the foot of the slopes and shaped like a barrel, perfect for a post-ski drink.

My Obergurgl Hints & Tips: A Summary

If Obergurgl sounds like your kind of ski destination, I’d love to help you plan a trip that suits your dates and budget perfectly.
