Why choose Les Carroz

The traditional village of Les Carroz has a pleasant ‘lived-in’ feel and animated atmosphere. Les Carroz has been popular with French families since the mid 1930s and holds the ‘Famille Plus Montagne’ label for its superb children facilities. Non skiers have plenty to do e.g. an Air balloon flight, a night time luge’, dog sledding, indoor tennis, ice skating, snowshoe outings

The skiing in Les Carroz

The resort is linked to the huge Grand Massif (Samoëns, Morillon, Sixt and Flaine) and provides extensive skiing for all levels and no queues. The gondola and chair lift go straight up to the Grand Massif area, but there is a steep 300m walk up from the centre (the nursery drag is a help).

Back from Flaine, the runs to Les Carroz are short but offer a wide variety of trails, including more difficult sections at the top of the red runs and some good off-piste. There is ample parking by the gondola departure. The ski school’s torch-lit descent is not to be missed – it starts off with fireworks and ends with vin chaud and live jazz in the square

Beginners skiing

There are good nursery slopes by the village of Flaine, these are free and so a lift pass is not needed until your skiing improves. There are no long greens to progress to, but plenty of gentle blues.

Intermediate skiing

Flaine is ideal for confident intermediates, the reds are generally easier than expected.

Advanced skiing

Flaine has some seriously challenging terrain, but most is off piste, which should always be explored with a guide. All the blacks are genuinely difficult, although there are only a few.

Snowboarding

Flaine suits boarders quite well offering varies terrain and off-piste opportunities. The main lifts are now chairs are gondolas although a drag exists by the terrain park. For freeriders there is the area above the Samoens lift to exploit and trees are abundant in Les Carroz. For those more concerned with jumping and spinning the snowboard park should satisfy your needs. For the budding nipper there is a kids half-pipe called Fantasurf.

Family ski holidays in Les Carroz

Flaine is becoming increasingly popular with families. The childcare here is good with a kindergarten called the petit loup and good ski schools run by Ski Ecole with a snow garden, playground, jumps and slides. This school also has a crèche for non-skiers. With its fitness centre, skating rink and indoor swimming pool you will keep the children happy here.

Après ski in Les Carroz

Après-ski is informal, mostly concentrated in the hotels, bars and restaurants.
