La Rosière sits at 1,850 m on a sunny south-facing balcony site, offering breathtaking views of the Tarentaise Valley. It links to La Thuile in Italy via the Espace San Bernardo, making it the only international ski area in the Northern Alps. Together they offer around 156 km of pistes across both sides of the border.

Mont Valaisan Expansion

In 2018, the resort added the Mont Valaisan sector—two new detachable 6-person chairlifts to 2,800 m, six red runs and one black. This addition provides freeride terrain on north-facing slopes and fresh challenges while maintaining La Rosière’s sunny charm.

Village & Leisure Facilities

The resort consists of chalet-style buildings, including the purpose-built Les Eucherts area with ski-in/ski-out access, shops, ice rink and bowling alley. It retains a relaxed, friendly feel with modern buildings blending traditional alpine aesthetics.

Skiing in La Rosière

Beginners

La Rosière is a welcoming choice for beginners, with well-designed learning areas in both the main village and Les Eucherts. These nursery zones are set apart from the main traffic, creating a calm space for first turns. There are also three free lifts, so there’s no need to buy a pass until you’re ready to explore higher.

Once confident, the progression onto wide, forgiving greens and blues is smooth and unintimidating. Runs such as Plan du Repos or Tetras offer just the right mix of space and gentle gradients to build control and confidence. The resort layout also means beginners don’t get stuck at the base — many of the easy runs are higher up the mountain, so learners can enjoy the same views and snow as more experienced skiers.

Intermediates

La Rosière is well-suited to confident beginners and intermediates ready to progress. Most slopes are blues and gentle reds, with wide runs and open views ideal for steady cruising. The Fontaine Froide red, a long tree-lined descent to the Ecudets lift, is a favourite, especially with its quiet setting and a small mountain hut at the bottom serving hot drinks and snacks.

The Mont Valaisan area offers higher-altitude reds, often quieter and with firmer snow. Runs like Red Marmottescombine steeper and more relaxed sections. For longer mileage, the cross-border link to La Thuile in Italy adds variety — the San Bernardo run is popular for its length and the chance to stop for a proper Italian lunch on the way down.

Advanced

La Rosière includes around 14 black runs and off-piste bowls on Mont Valaisan, which remain relatively uncrowded and keep powder longer. The off-piste quality is good thanks to fewer tracks. La Thuile offers more steep and technical terrain if you want to explore across the border.

Snow Conditions

La Rosière enjoys a strong snow record, despite its southern exposure, due to consistent inbound weather from the Petit-Saint-Bernard pass. Opening mid-December, the season runs to late April, and snow cover on the glacier and Mont Valaisan remains reliable even late in the season. In April 2025, La Rosière received up to 105 cm of fresh snow in 24 hours, which caused some avalanche risk and disruptions, but also delivered memorable piste conditions.

Ski Lessons

La Rosière offers a comprehensive range of ski lessons via providers such as ESF and Oxygène Ski & Snowboard School. Private lessons start at around €50/hr; group lessons and teen freeride camps are also available. Lessons cater for all disciplines including adaptive skiing, off-piste guiding and telemark introduction. Groups are limited in size (typically six), ensuring focused attention for adults and children alike.

Après Ski & Activities Off the Slopes

Après-ski is low-key, with cosy bars like Le 1850 and Petit Danois offering live music and relaxed evenings. For late‑night fun, there’s the Moo Club in Les Eucherts. Off the slopes, there’s an ice rink, bowling alley, and illuminated forest sledging paths. Activities include paragliding, snowshoeing, family sledging, and guided walks along scenic mountain paths.

The mountain paths are well signposted and thoughtfully laid out, offering opportunities to immerse yourself in the beauty of the surroundings.
