Welcome to Chalet Champs Avalins! Apart from the advantages of the excellent location at the foot of Val d’Isère’s La Daille slopes, you are assured a genuinely warm welcome from our team of friendly staff, led by an experienced Manager.
In common with the rest of Val d’Isère’s La Daille area, the chalet might not win any awards for the cutest or prettiest exterior in the Alps, but as with all properties, it is the location that really counts! And that’s where the Champs Avalins really scores. You can ski back to within just 50m of the hotel, and each morning you have a choice of lifts right on hand to whisk you up the mountain.
Inside, the Champs Avalins offers a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. The attractive restaurant on the first floor has views to the piste, and forms the centrepiece of our hotel, setting the scene for our Xtra Chalet catering.
Our residents’ bar is ideal for afternoon, or pre-or post-dinner drinks and is a lively venue for swapping the day’s ski highlights.
In contrast to our other properties, we have two dinner sittings in our dining room, one from 6.30pm for aperitifs, and the other from 8pm, creating a cosier dinner ambience, and giving you the possibility of enjoying more après-ski, either in the early evening on some nights or after dinner on other nights. We will do our best to accommodate your individual preferences and you can state which sitting you prefer (if any) when booking.
Start the day with a full breakfast including cooked and continental options, whilst Afternoon Tea offers a selection of freshly made cakes and a savoury option. Evening meals start with a glass of Prosecco, followed by an appetiser, main course and a choice of cheese or dessert to finish your meal. Families staying in our ‘Xtra-Chalets’ can chose for children to have High Tea at 5.30 or all dine together later. Any child who received a child discount pays the meal upgrade price of £39.
The bedrooms are generally a good size and attractively furnished, and all of them have well-appointed shower or bathrooms, most with smart new tiling from floor to ceiling. Most rooms have balconies, many of which are south-facing and overlook the piste where the World Cup Downhill run finishes, and there are some pairs of rooms with an inter-connecting door available on request.
‘Xtra’ Chalets all offer a few little ‘Xtras’ to enhance the chalet experience even further, such as a full residents’ bar run by this operators own bar staff, cakes and a savoury treat at afternoon tea and rosé wine as an additional wine choice at dinner.
The food and beverage service here will feature the same courses as this operator's Chalet Hotels, but with a ‘table d’hôte’ menu each day, without the choices at each course featured in Chalet Hotels. All the same, we will be offering a daily choice of dessert or cheese option to round off your dinner.
We set very high standards for our cuisine, and train our staff extensively before the season starts, to ensure that you will thoroughly enjoy every meal on your own holiday with us. We also take our Health and Safety responsibilities extremely seriously, so all our chalet and Chalet Hotel staff during the pre-season training course are trained to the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health’s Level 2 in Food Safety*. For six days of the week our staff prepare all your meals, as described below.
A good breakfast is essential on a ski holiday, so we provide both a cooked breakfast including your choice of bacon, eggs, sausages and beans, as well as a continental selection with a choice of cereals or porridge, fruit juices, plentiful tea, coffee and bread (and croissants in France), cold meats, cheese and preserves, which is normally presented buffet-style for you to help yourself. On our staff’s one day off a week, only the continental breakfast will be provided.
Our Chalet Hotels can also prepare a packed lunch for you on request, at a small local charge. For skiers keen to keep their Euro-spending to an absolute minimum, this is the ideal way to keep your costs down!
The traditional ‘welcome home’ after a day on the slopes will be laid out for you in your chalet or Chalet Hotel, ready for your return, every day except on the staff’s one day off per week. A good cup of tea or coffee is the perfect accompaniment to a delicious slice of freshly home-baked cake and keeps hungry skiers happy until dinner is ready. As an added benefit for guests in our Chalet Hotels, our chefs prepare a selection of cakes for afternoon tea.
In Chalets and Chalet Hotels with family guests, High Tea provides children under 13 years with a healthy menu, tailored more towards children’s tastes and puréed food is available for infants on request. High Tea is at 5.30pm, and children do not join the main adult-only dinner.
Families staying in one of our Chalet Hotels may choose to eat separately (High Tea at 5:30pm) or all dine together at the later adult dinner time if children who have received a child discount pay the meal upgrade charge of £39 at the time of booking only
A tasty and innovative, freshly cooked dinner will be prepared for you
A special feature of our Chalet Hotels is a more extensive culinary experience for our guests. With the greater kitchen facilities of a hotel, our professional chefs are able to offer choices of menu at dinner freshly prepared for you
Vegetarian options are always on our ‘Culinary Choice’ menu in our Chalet Hotels, and are available in our chalets if you advise us in advance. Other special diets can generally be catered for at a cost of £35 per person per week. Any dietary requirements must be advised to us at the time of booking in order for us to be fully prepared and see paragraph 15(c) of the booking conditions for important details.
Most chalets have a low-priced bar/fridge, selling cold beers and mixers, with plenty of ice and lemon on hand if you have brought your own gin!
We are very proud of our wine selection for Ski Total chalets and Chalet Hotels, which combines crisp and fruity whites with medium to full bodied reds and, new for this year for our Chalet Hotels, a Rosé – see below for some recent examples. We are very proud of our wine selection for Ski Total chalets and Chalet Hotels, which combines crisp and fruity whites with medium to full bodied reds, for a variety of palates. In our Chalet Hotels we also offer an additional light fresh rosé to our guests’ choice. We select our wines in conjunction with our good friends Nicolas and Véronique – the third generation in the Perret family’s fine wine business based in the Savoie. Nicolas is a qualified wine expert, having trained at the prestigious Burgundy Wine University in Beaune. Each season in October, Nicolas & Véronique bring over a new selection for us to sample (someone has to do it!) and together we choose our wines for the coming season, based on our menus and their pure enjoyment factor. Wine is an incredibly subjective and emotive subject, however the feedback we have received from our guests over recent seasons endorses our aims of providing wines to enhance your meal and to suit most tastes. We hope you will enjoy them as much as we do!
Two Red, two White and a Rosé (Chalet Hotel only) wines will be chosen in the autumn, and may include the following favourites from last winter:
