Snow-covered vistas, crackling fires and long chairlift rides make ski resorts a natural setting for romance. Around Valentine’s Day, many Alpine destinations help visitors get into a romantic mood by transforming the mountains into playgrounds for lovers and hopeful singles.
Some resorts take the idea further, turning ski lifts and gondolas into a form of high-altitude speed dating. Single skiers and snowboarders are paired for the journey, giving them just enough time to chat and to see if sparks fly before they get to the top
Beyond these playful encounters, resorts across Europe are offering creative ways to celebrate romance, whether you are a couple, single, or simply travelling with friends. Here are a few examples.

Val d’Isère, France
Val d’Isère is scattering hearts throughout its ski area for a free Valentine’s photo challenge. Couples, friends or groups can scan QR codes at each heart to enter categories such as Most Romantic or Funniest Photo. Prizes include a Cédric Grolet cake for the most romantic couple, Oakley helmets and goggles for the best friends’ duo, and Oakley goggles for the funniest group shot.
Val Thorens, France
Club Val Tho is organising a resort-wide hunt for hidden hearts, both on the slopes and in town. Open to couples and friends alike, this light-hearted activity combines skiing with a sense of adventure and the chance to win prizes along the way.
Livigno, Italy
While Livigno doesn’t host official Valentine’s events, the resort embraces the spirit of the day with its own romantic suggestions. Think sunrise breakfasts on the slopes, discovering secluded areas of its 115km ski area, and candlelit dinners featuring special Valentine’s menus.
Alpe d’Huez, France
Alpe d’Huez plans to mark Valentine’s Day with special offers, entertainment and themed attractions designed to enhance the resort’s romantic appeal throughout the days surrounding the most romantic day of the year.
Kitzbühel, Austria
Known for its charm, Kitzbühel sets the scene with wellness packages, candlelight dinners and thoughtful gift ideas, creating an intimate Alpine escape for couples staying in town.
Share the Love
Tour operators are also getting involved. Erna Low, for example, has been encouraging skiers and snowboarders to surprise their partner with a last-minute romantic escape to the mountains. The vision is simple but enticing. Fresh pastries and coffee in the morning, discovering new runs together by day, and unwinding in a sauna or spa, or over a romantic meal, as the sun sets over snow-covered peaks.
Sometimes, the most romantic gesture of all is sharing the mountains together.
