Boasting the biggest natural lake in Slovenia and some extraordinary scenery, Bohinj is a lovely skiing resort with village charm which is set in the Julian Alps.
The main ski areas are Vogel and Kobla, accessed via ski bus and located in the Triglav National Park. There are around 50km of runs in total here, with the majority suited to intermediates and beginners.
Being in Slovenia most things here are quite cheap, so this is definitely a good place for a budget ski holiday or first time ski holiday if you don’t mind the bus rides to the slopes. Ski Line offer half board hotels in Bohinj, one of which is set on the banks of the Lake Bohinj.
The majority of any kind of après ski in Bohinj is situated within the hotels, and with them being scattered amongst the village that make up Bohinj around the lake there isn’t a centre for nightlife.
Ice-climbing, paragliding and sleigh rides are all fun activities to try out while staying in Bohinj. You can also visit the Postojna Caves in nearby capital Ljubljana or a fantastic spa in Bled.
Beginner skiers will find Vogel the best place to learn, with the nursery slopes on the plateau at the top of the cable car and the main base for the ski schools.
There is a wide scope of choice for the intermediate skier in Bohinj, with access to both the Vogel and Kobla ski areas there are plenty of red runs to cruise down and tree-lined off piste sections to try out if you’re feeling confident.
Advanced skiing in Bohinj isn’t in the majority, as there is a limited supply of black runs available. However if you enjoy taking in the stunning landscape there are some long red runs here, one of which is as long as 8.5km!
If you’re learning to snowboard or perfecting techniques there’s a snowboard school here which provides cheap lessons and English speaking instructors. Most snowboarding is done in Vogel as it has it’s own terrain park, however Kobla also offers great runs for freeriders.
