Montgenevre is a French ski resort about 2km from the Italian border and is linked into the popular Milky Way ski area that it shares with Claviere
, Sauze d’Oulx
Montgenevre has made great improvements in recent years so that it is now traffic free as it is now buried in a tunnel and many new upmarket accommodations have been constructed. The lift system is not so improved, some of which are slower and older in style, however, lift queues are seldom a problem. For skiers who are hitting the under exploited off piste areas the lift speeds are less important.
For beginners, there is a truly excellent nursery slope by the Gondrans sector with excellent progression runs back to the village below. Montgenevre is regarded as one of the best places to learn to ski.
The cruising runs are ideal for intermediate skiers, especially around the Chalvet sector, however, the wider area of the Milky Way is ideal for intermediate skiers of all levels.
The off piste skiing will certainly appeal to advanced and expert skiers which are neglected by others who visit here. The black runs aren’t too steep. You can find some excellent powder stashes and booking a guide here is a good idea too. It’s possible to also go Heli-skiing from the Italian side.
