At Sunshine Mountain Lodge, you’re guaranteed to be one of the first people on the mountain. Located in the Sunshine Village ski area, it is the only ski in, ski out hotel in Banff National Park and as such, check-in is at the base of the gondola, which then takes you up to the hotel.
The hotel is decorated in a rustic style with modern touches, complementing its forested surroundings. Because it is the only hotel on the mountain, you have everything you need in one place with amenities including an outdoor hot tub, sauna, gym, games room with arcade games and a pool table as well as a family room with sofas, board games and a cosy fireplace.
Evenings tend to be quiet but there is still plenty to keep you occupied with three restaurants (fine dining and casual) as well as a sports bar and saloon. After the lifts, close, the hotel offers complimentary activities for guests including snowshoeing, tobogganing evenings and movie nights. There is also a shuttle bus to Banff on Friday evenings if you want to venture out of the hotel.
Nb. Should you arrive outside gondola opening hours (Saturday – Thursday: 08:00 – 17:00 and Friday: 08:00 – 22:00), you will need to take the shuttle ‘Sunshine Suzy’ to the hotel - Suzy is a 4x4 with caterpillar tracks, so an experience in itself. This needs to be arranged at least 24 hours in advance and will be an additional cost. The hotel will liaise with the transfer company so they'll know if you are delayed or arriving early.
*Sunshine Mountain Lodge includes a Sunshine lift pass for all paying guests for each day after a night spent at the hotel.
Sunshine Mountain Lodge is unique as it is the only ski in, ski out hotel in Banff National Park. It sits in the Sunshine Village ski area, which is a 20-minute gondola ride from the Sunshine Village base station – you must catch the gondola up to the accommodation.
Sunshine Village itself is about 25 minutes’ drive from Banff town but the hotel does provide regular complimentary shuttle buses to both Banff and Lake Louise (which is about 45 minutes away).
