Why choose Bansko

  • Largest ski area in Bulgaria (75 km of slopes)
  • Wide choice of beginner and intermediate runs
  • Historic old town with local dining
  • Lively après-ski and nightlife
  • High snow reliability with long ski season

Modern Infrastructure & Long Ski Season

Bansko features an updated lift system, including an 8-person gondola and several high-speed chairs. Snowmaking covers most pistes, supporting a long season from mid-December to April. The resort’s high-altitude terrain and north-facing slopes enhance snow reliability.

Historic Old Town Charm

Away from the main ski area, Bansko’s old town offers cobbled streets, traditional Bulgarian mehanas, and cultural sites. It’s a contrast to the modern resort zone and provides a quieter atmosphere for dining and evening walks.

Good Value for Money

Bansko delivers lower overall costs than the Alps. Lift passes, ski lessons, meals and drinks are affordable. Budget-friendly accommodation and family packages are widely available.

Skiing in Bansko

Bansko has 75 km of marked pistes across all difficulty levels. The ski area rises to 2,530 m and includes a 16 km run from summit to base. Most slopes are blue or red, making the resort ideal for beginners and intermediates. Black runs are limited.

Beginners skiing

Bansko offers excellent beginner slopes near Banderishka Poliana with magic carpets and slow chairs. English-speaking ski schools cater to first-timers, and green runs provide progression options. The fabulous scenery also makes for an enjoyable experience. A long meandering blue run can be a fun alternative to taking the gondola back down.

Intermediate skiing

Intermediates benefit from long, wide red runs off Todorka and Shiligarnika chairs. Grooming is consistent, and terrain is varied enough for confidence-building and technique improvement. Mid-mountain access limits congestion.

Advanced skiing

There are limited black runs and no sustained steep terrain. However, the World Cup downhill section and one black run, the Tomba, offer brief challenges. Off-piste options exist with a guide but are regulated due to national park status.

Snowboarding

Snowboarders enjoy the wide, groomed pistes and park features on the Plato slope. The terrain park includes jumps and rails for various skill levels. Some flat sections (e.g. ski road to town) may require unstrapping. A snow park is here for you to try out jumps, and competitions are held frequently in the Shiligarnika area.
