Why Ski In Saalbach?

The ski resort of Sallbach is a traditional Austrian village with beautiful views. The village centre compact with the lifts for 3 of the many areas in the traffic free centre. The lifts from Sallbach are very good mainly chairs and gondolas. The south facing slopes can suffer slightly from the sun but you will still have some north facing slopes. Both sides have many runs and lifts.  With 55 lifts all well linked to each other and 200 km of piste this large ski area is attractive to all levels.

The Skiing In Saalbach

Beginners Skiing In Saalbach

Saalbach has two nursery slopes on the sunny south side. The higher of the two can get a bit of through traffic but there are lots of blue runs to progress on to. A short bus ride away can take you to Hinterglemm and there you will find a very spacious nursery slope which is completely separate from the main area.

Intermediates Skiing In Saalbach

The ski resort of Saalbach is an intermediate skier’s heaven, with good interlinking ski lifts plenty of red runs, there’s also plenty of long tree lined runs or wide open descents. The north side of this area have the more challenging runs whilst the south side has the more leisurely runs.

Advanced Skiing In Saalbach

For the advanced skier in Sallbach, there are a few black runs on the north facing side, a 2.5 mile run just under the Schattberg Ost gondola is a fast run if it has been tended and is not too icy first thing. Off piste guides are a recommendation as the forest can limit the snow conditions but if the snow has been good then the powder on the off piste is a must.

Snowboarding In Saalbach

The snowboarders will enjoy Saalbach for boarding. It is quickly becoming a popular area with all levels able to board here. There are mainly chairs and gondolas with a minimal amount of drag lifts connecting them. With very few flat parts and plenty of off piste terrain between lifts there are lots of areas to cover, there is also a half pipe in Bernkogel.

Après Ski In Saalbach

Saalbach Après ski is extremely lively. From anytime in the late afternoon till the early hours most bars will be full of party people. Most of the mountain restaurants are very atmospheric.

Activities Off The Slopes In Saalbach

There are a few non skiing activities within the ski resort of Saalbach. Not many shops but you can purchase a pedestrian lift pass and meet any of your skiing friends up the mountain for lunch. Hinterglemm has a toboggan run which of course is great fun and this one is said to be good value as well.

What is the nearest airport and how long are transfer times?
