April ski holidays are a bit underrated. It’s a very different feel to the rest of the season, but for the right person it can be absolutely brilliant.

Around Easter you’ll still find plenty of choice, but once the school holidays pass, prices drop, the families head home and resorts become noticeably quieter.

Spring conditions mean softer snow in the afternoons, so most keen skiers head out early and are happily on a sunny terrace by mid-afternoon. The key is knowing where still works. Some lower or smaller resorts may start to wind down, so we’d usually guide you towards high-altitude or glacier areas.

If you’re looking for guaranteed snow late in the season, Scandinavia is also worth considering, although it’s a very different style of skiing to the Alps.
