Why choose Vars

Vars is set in a wooded valley and shares it ski area with Risoul. The architecture although 1970’s in design is not as brutal at some of Frances purpose built villages due in part to the tree line softening the harder edges. The height of Vars at 1850m means it is snow sure. The whole area covers some 180km of slopes serviced by 52 lifts.

Vars has serveral villages, but for most winter visitors the preferred choice is staying in Vars- Les- Claux which offers modern apartment style building with sunny restaurant terraces facing the slopes.

Ski Line mainly offers apartments and the small selection of catered chalets in Vars.

Skiing in Vars

Beginners skiing

There is a central nursery slope in Vars which we have received good reports of, it offers varied terrain and excellent progression slopes. Fast learners will be skiing over to Risoul before the week is up.

Intermediate skiing

Easy blues and cruising reds make Vars and Risoul an ideal choice for all levels of Intermediate skiers and boarders.

Advanced skiing

Vars might not appeal to those who consider themselves as advanced or expert skiers as the ski area is limited with few black runs. We suggest you try the runs down from Crete de Chambrietres which covers an off piste section and an un-pisted track. Also try the tricky couloir at Col de Crevoux.

Snowboarding

There is some excellent free riding to be done in Vars and Risoul, and few drag lifts which is always good news!

Après ski in Vars

The après ski is lively after the lifts close but less so after dinner except at weekends when the discos get busy and stay open until late.

Vars offers 35km of walking paths in the mountains, an ice rink and cinema.
