Ski Holidays in Valmorel

Up until a few years ago, if you wanted to stay in Valmorel you’d either be booking one of many small apartments or if you were lucky one of the very few ski chalets. Since the arrival of Club Med, that’s all changed. The Club Med hotel is our number one seller by a long way. It’s located above the resort in a ski in ski out location.

Valmorel is located at 1,400m, the ski range is between 1,250m and 2,550m, the 152km of skiing may sound limited, but the team at Ski Line agreed it feels a lot bigger, you certainly can see new runs could easily be added and off piste skiing is underused by visitors and this rarely gets skied out.

The skiing here is suitable for all levels, beginners have mid mountain nursery slopes reached by gondola from the village, once the basics are mastered there are several blue runs back down to the village from here, although timid beginners might prefer to take the lift as sections of these blues are steeper in places.

For intermediate skier’s it’s a great choice, the runs across to Longchamp and St Francois gives the impressions you have skied for miles. There are lots of good blue and red runs and even some of the blacks aren’t too scary.

Advanced skiers will enjoy the ungroomed Blacks and Reds and off piste options.

The lifts are generally fast, although a few slower drags are still in use.

We offer a limited selection of apartments and our number 1 seller in Valmorel, Club Med who offer a perfect holiday for adult groups, families and singles.

Why Ski in Valmorel?

Valmorel was built from scratch in the 1970s but unlike some other purpose built resorts in France this one was done with style. It was designed to appear like a mountain village and we think it’s achieved its goal.

The village is located at 1400m with a ski range between 1250m and 2550m offering 95 km of slopes, 33% are green, 39% blue, 19% red and 9% black. With over 200 snow making machines good snow is the norm. The pistes are spread over a number of small valleys and ridges giving the feel of touring.

There has never been a huge demand from British skiers for this resort, we don’t know why, it’s a great choice for beginners and intermediate skiers and particularly so for families. Ski Line offers a few ski chalets and ski hotels and serveral options for apartments in various styles and sizes. New for 2011/12 season will be a new hotel from Club Med which we suspect will be very popular, particularly with first time family skiers.

Beginners skiing in Valmorel

Both adults and children who are beginners are extremely well catered for here as it has one of the best learning slopes we have seen (anywhere!) with one free lift connecting to a gentle green, but the progression slopes are wonderful too, by mid week many will be able to travel well beyond the Valmorel valley on a network of easy blues.

Intermediates skiing in Valmorel

Apart from the odd steeper Black the whole area will delight all intermediate skiers and snow boarders. The grooming is normally excellent.

Advanced skiing in Valmorel

The off piste will please advanced skiers and as the resort mainly caters for beginners and intermediates the snow stays good for weeks after fresh falls. There are a few steeper blacks that will interest. We think this will be a great choice if you are bring the children on a first trip you wont be bored and the kids will be hooked for ever!

Après ski in Valmorel

As the slopes close the many bars around the village have a good lively atmosphere later on in the evening the après ski activities centre around the main street.

Activities off the slopes in Valmorel

Selling itself as a family resort, it’s no surprise that there is plenty going on off the slopes. The fitness centre has sauna’s steam and hot tubs and tobogganing and torch lit descents are always popular with families. There is a cinema where films are often shown in English.
