Why Ski in Megeve?

Megeve is the original home of the chic, rich and beautiful people with fur coats and fat wallets, but thankfully you don’t need any of these to enjoy this wonderful attractive ski resort. Megeve has been a ski resort since the 1920’s when its only rival was St Moritz in Switzerland.

The piste cover 300km of pistes with a ski range between 850m and 2355m with 79 lifts connecting the various slopes.

For many the perceived issue with Megeve is its snow depth, but when you consider all of the runs are over what are grassy meadows in summer you only need a couple of inches to make the whole resort come to life in winter. This is in sharp contrast to other French resorts such as Val d’Isere which are very rocky and need a metre just to cover the rocks. When a storm comes in and plenty of snow is falling there can be no better place!

The charm of Megeve is the chic mountain feel and the quaint village with upmarket clothing and jewellery shops which simply add its appeal.

Ski Line offer a selection of smart catered chalets and serveral upmarket hotels, many slope side or within reach of the runs. We also offer apartments of all grades.

Beginners skiing in Megeve

Megeve has some good beginner’s slopes at valley level and some easy greens to progress too once the basics have been mastered.

Intermediates skiing in Megeve

Megeve is a good choice for all levels of intermediate skier and snowboarder; even some of the blacks below the Princesse gondola are doable for most. Even the more timid skiers will be able to rack up some miles as the runs are well linked allowing you to avoid the steeper runs if necessary.

Advanced skiing in Megeve

The big draw for experts is the lack of experts that come to Megeve! Many prefer to stay further down the valley at Chamonix 45 minutes drive away, so after fresh snowfall many of the steeper runs retain fresh snow for days, or even weeks off piste. When the snow is good the powder runs below the Princesse gondola offer great skiing for advanced skiers and snow boarders. The area around Mont Joly and Mont Joux offer the steepest slopes.

Snowboarding in Megeve

There isn’t a dedicated snow board school in Megeve, its doesn’t really fit with the image! But Free riders will find plenty to keep them amused particularly after fresh snow. There are two terrain parks, one at Mont Joly and the other above Combloux.

Après ski in Megeve

The night life here is smart rather than lively. If you are looking for discos you are going to be disappointed. We recommend the Club du Jazz, an upmarket Jazz come cocktail bar that attracts some big named stars from the jazz world. It’s open after tea until late. If you fancy a bet, head for the Casino. For a simple drink the Brits head for either the Cocoon or the Rosy Creve Coeur.

Activities off the slopes in Megeve

Lots to do here for non skiers, as you’d expect some of the fur coat brigade wont be packing ski’s or snow boards! There is a fantastic out door ice rink and wonderful sports centre complete with pool, saunas and hot tubs. With over 30 miles of mountain trails available for walkers it’s an ideal choice for groups with some non skiers.
