The skiing in Auris-en-Oisans

Auris is part of the Alpe d’Huez Grande Domaine, with skiing between 1,600m and 3,330m. While 45km of pistes sit on the Auris side, fast lift connections open up the full 250km area.

The slopes above the village are wide and scenic, and the south-facing aspect provides plenty of sunshine throughout the season.

Beginners skiing in Auris-en-Oisans

Beginners are well looked after, with gentle nursery slopes in the centre of the village and a dedicated learner area with magic carpets. The ski school is conveniently located and highly regarded.

As confidence builds, easy blue runs lead back to resort, or you can explore beginner-friendly terrain over in the Alpe d’Huez sector at Les Bergers. There’s also a dedicated children’s area beside the pedestrian plaza.

Intermediate skiing in Auris-en-Oisans

Intermediates will find plenty to enjoy on the wide, open pistes above Auris. From Signal de l’Homme, long red runs such as Fontfroide and Maronne offer satisfying descents with panoramic mountain views.

With the full Alpe d’Huez ski area accessible, there’s an excellent mix of blues and reds to explore, making it easy to clock up the miles and try something different each day.

Advanced skiing in Auris-en-Oisans

Advanced skiers can head higher for steeper challenges, particularly around the Glacier de Sarenne. The legendary 16km Sarenne run from Pic Blanc is a must-do, combining sustained pitches with spectacular scenery.

The Tunnel run, also from Pic Blanc, adds an extra thrill with its steep entrance through a tunnel before continuing down a demanding slope.

Snowboarding in Auris-en-Oisans

Snowboarders have access to two snow parks on the Alpe d’Huez side of the ski area, complete with rails, boxes, halfpipes and a boardercross course.

The higher slopes offer good freeride potential in fresh snow, though some flatter sections around Auris mean you’ll want to keep your speed up.

Cross-country skiing in Auris-en-Oisans

While primarily known for downhill skiing, the area also offers winter walking and snowshoe trails through peaceful alpine scenery. Ski touring is available with local guides for those looking to explore further afield.

Accommodation in Auris mainly consists of apartments and hotels close to the lifts, so getting onto the slopes each morning is quick and easy.

Après ski in Auris is relaxed and low-key. A small selection of bars provide a welcoming spot for a post-ski drink, while evenings tend to centre around cosy dinners rather than late-night partying.

Restaurants serve traditional Alpine favourites like fondue, raclette and tartiflette, alongside more familiar options such as pizza and pasta.

Away from skiing, there’s plenty to keep everyone entertained. Snow activities include dog sledding, snow tubing, snowshoe walking, winter walking paths and Yooner sledging. Ski touring is also available with ESF guides.
