Skiers and snowboarders seem to fall into two categories those that love Chamonix and those that don’t. The lovers will almost certainly be expert skiers who love its tough terrain and village atmosphere and the loathers will be skiers and boarders who are timid or nervous and prefer the perfectly groomed pistes of resorts such as Courchevel 1850.

Chamonix Ski Resort

Chamonix is a “mountain man” kind of resort, in the winter it’s for skiers and boarders but in the summer it’s for climbers and walkers, strange for a ski resort, Chamonix has more summer visitors than winter.

Chamonix valley cuts through Europe’s highest mountains and Glacier’s, the majestic Mont Blanc is the best known of all the French mountains. The scenery is spectacular here.

Ski Chalets in Chamonix

Ski Line offers accommodation in all the villages along the valley from Les Houches right up to Argentiere. A bus, and railway connects villages and the serveral lift stations. We offer catered ski chalets, apartments of all sizes and styles and many hotels both small and large including the very popular Club Med hotel that offers an all inclusive package. Many who visit here never go home, including many Brits who have set up independent chalets, we offer most of the best of them on this site.

Chamonix is one of the best resorts if you have non skiers in the group as the shops and non skiing activities are excellent. The views from the Aiguille du Midi which can be reached with a pedestrian pass are really breathtaking.

One of the perceived draw backs of this resort is the need to use buses or cars. If you’re using a car there is always lots of free parking near all of the lifts. The buses can be crowded and not always reliable. In view of this fact, many of the independent chalets have capitalised on this and run their own mini buses for the convenience of their guests. If you plan your day in advance it needn’t be an issue as each of the ski areas has more than a days skiing. By planning in advance you can make the mountain and its transport work for you.

Après ski in the ski resort Chamonix

Many of the bars around the lift stations get busy and crowded as the lifts start to close. Bars such as the one in the Rhododendrons hotel has live music but you will also find many more in the centre of town. The town centre of Chamonix is pedestrianised and après ski time very busy with many bars tempting you in with happy hour offers.

Later on the choice of bars, Clubs, lap dancing bars and clubs is huge and many stay open late with some offering live music.

Activities off the slopes in the ski resort Chamonix

Chamonix is one of the best resorts for non ski activities. The sport centre offers swimming, climbing walls, ice skating and hockey matches. It’s also possible to visit nearby villages, towns and Cities including through the Mont Blanc tunnel to the Italian resort of Courmayeur, or the lake side town of Annecy. The cities of Geneva and Turin are all accessible too. Within the town of Chamonix the shops offer more than just ski equipment shopping and includes art galleries; fashion outlets and much more.

Beginner skiing in ski resort Chamonix

Not an ideal choice for beginners, we offer many other resorts that would be more suitable for learning to ski. The Nursery slopes at Les Planards are low and can suffer when the snow is poor. Le Tour beyond Argentiere is the best area for easy skiing and where we recommend that complete beginners learn to ski.

Intermediate skiing in ski resort Chamonix

If you are looking for mile after mile of linked cursing pistes don’t venture here; but for the brave intermediate who fancies tackling off piste slopes you might well enjoy it here. The Grands Montets has a good area of Blues mid mountain but many of the blues here might well be reds in other resorts. When the weather is fine we highly recommend the Vallee Blanche run, but ONLY with a mountain guide, from here the views are breathtaking but should only be tacked by brave intermediates.

Advanced skiing in ski resort Chamonix

For experts, Chamonix is one of the best resorts in Europe, the choice of endless off piste skiing and snowboarding is what Chamonix is all about. Every lift offers thrills and excitement.
