Accommodation records for resort:
Squaw is laid back, peaceful and relatively undeveloped – in short Californian skiing at its best. The resort’s ski area is vast and benefits from six mountain peaks of wide open terrain served by a state-of-the-art system. Good skiers will revel in the unpisted steeps and powder bowls whilst those less adventurous will enjoy the wide and perfectly groomed slopes
Squaw Valley ski resort information

Squaw Valley is situated at the north end of the lake at Tahoe at 1890m and can be reached by car in about an hour or more unusually via boat too from Heavenly at the southern end of the lake.
There’s a really convenient purpose built base at the village and a great variety of runs for beginners and experts. With its impressive snow fall record its bound to please. Intrawest built a car free village here a few years ago and since then they haven’t looked back.

There are six linked peaks which unusually are not listed on its map. The lifts are listed and colour coded though so more nervous skiers might like to be with a guide incase they find themselves in a run that s too hot to handle!
The gondola and cable from the village base are fast and efficient and take you up to gentle beginner slopes which are just above two stations called Gold Coast and High Camp.
Beyo0ned the beginners slopes you will find the highest peaks in the ski area. The cable car also runs in the evenings for flood lit skiing.

Après ski in the ski resort of Squaw Valley

Although not a huge resort there are plenty of restaurants and bars to choose from. The best food can be found at the Plump jack Inn and Balboa Café which are run by the same owners. Other favourites include the Auld Dubliner pub which has a roaring fire with pizza and pasta being its main speciality. You can also eat up the mountain at a venue named Alexander’s.
Some the restaurants are also the local Bars, so find yourself finishing your meal at the Auld Dubliner and then moving over to its lively bar .Uncorked also deserved a mention and has live music on Thursdays.

Activities off the slopes in the ski resort of Squaw Valley

How about a paddle steamer trip across Lake Tahoe for something a bit out of the ordinary? You can ice skate, take in the scenery on a walk or have a spa treatment at the Trilogy Spa.

Beginners skiing in the ski resort of Squaw Valley

Get a special beginners lift pass and head for the nursery slope ‘Papoose’ which is served by a double chairlift, from there you can progress onto a large range of easy green learner slopes.

Intermediates skiing in the ski resort of Squaw Valley

For the best runs to suit intermediate skiers we would suggest that you head on over to the cruisy blue runs at the Emigrant and Snow King sectors of the mountain which you will find a three mile top to bottom run. Groomed intermediate runs are few here although there’s lots of steep blue and easy black unpisted runs where you can hone your deep snow skills.

Advanced skiing in the ski resort of Squaw Valley

This area will really suit you as the runs here seem to go on and on. There a huge variety with many many runs on KT-22, Silverado Valley, Squaw Peak and Granite Chief to name but a few. A good guide will set you straight on which runs are good to go.

Snowboarding in the ski resort of Squaw Valley

This resort is great for boarders with steep gullies, chutes and cliff drops galore. There are also three good terrain parks to choose from.
