Verbier ski resort information

STOP PRESS.....  A new six man chair is replacing the old and slower Combe 1 and 2 up from Carrefour, taking you to the top near  Ruinettes and offering a good alternative to queues at Medran when the slopes are busy. Also for those of you for a mountain lunch is more important than just skiing or perhaps who consider skiing is just a warm up exercise before lunch, will be delighted to to know that a new mountain restaurant is opening in La Chaux near the Mont Fort cable car.

Verbier for many, is the first choice when skiing in Switzerland and for some no other resort comes close.  Its vast ski area covers 412 km of piste but getting around the 4 valleys is not as simple as say the French 3 Valleys area. The local area covers 195km of piste plus almost endless off piste skiing which is more than many will cover in a weeks ski holiday.

The village centre is around Place Centrale where most of the hotels and shops are located and is about 500m from the main lift departure point of Medran. It’s also the centre for much of the resorts night life with many bars and clubs and at the end of the day it’s teeming with après ski bars.

The chalets of which Ski Line offer many are located around the surrounding area of the spreading village but few are near the very centre. This isn’t really an issue as the resort buses cover most of the village and connect to the various lifts.  Many of the newer chalets are located close to the Savoleyres lift about 1.5 km form Medran so if night life is important its best not to stay here.  Many chalet operators run their own private mini buses to and from the slopes too.

Ski Line offers a huge selection of chalets to suit all budgets including some truly special ultra luxurious ones which come with price tags to match. We also offer most of the resorts best hotels and a few privately owned apartments for those on a budget.

Après ski in ski resort Verbier

The choices for night life in Verbier is huge much of it located around the central square of Place Centrale, with music bars, some with DJ’s and others with live bands. Later on the Farm Club is the place to be seen but is seriously expensive and stays open until very early in the morning. If that’s too rich for you the Mont Fort pub is lively and much better value for money and always packed with Brits.  The three most popular night clubs are Cashah, Coup and the Coco Club.

Activities off the slopes in ski resort Verbier

Verbier has a good sports centre with pool, saunas and hot tubs. In Savoleyres there is a popular toboggan run and you can also try dog sledging.

Beginners skiing in ski resort Verbier

The nursery slopes at Les Esserts is well covered by snow making in the event of warmer weather and sun. Progression on to blue slopes in this area is ideal, particularly so at La Chaux and around the back of Savoleyres.

Intermediates skiing in ski resort Verbier

The best of the intermediate terrain is around Savoleyres which is often quieter than other areas. For mile hungry intermediates the full area holds the best possibilities but some of the connections are slow, heading towards Thyon and Nendaz might be the better option. Some of the reds runs in Verbier could well be Blacks in other resorts and avoid the itineraries as these un-pisted and un-patrolled runs are often steep and many intermediates might find them a challenge.

Advanced skiing in ski resort Verbier

Verbier is a perfect resort for those who like steep and fast runs, although on first sight of the piste map the black runs around Verbier look limited, the itineraries runs will please when the snow cover is good. Many of the press are calling for these runs to graded as Blacks. Some of the reds are very steep too and in other resorts could well be graded as blacks.
It’s the off piste that will, for many advanced skiers and snowboarders, be the appeal of Verbier, which combined with the full area pass taking in 4 valleys over to Veysonnaz is perfect. Off piste skiing around Verbier can be dangerous and we always advise you rent a guide when skiing off piste.
