Spain is better known for its beaches and coastline, but it is in fact Europe's most mountainous country.
Skiline features two ski resorts in the Spanish Pyrenees. Formigal with 105.5km of piste and Celer with 70km.
We have been very impressed with the both the runs and the lift system. The runs are covered from top to bottom with
snowmaking facilities and the lifts are mostly fast and modern.
The first thing to strike you when you arrive at either resort is the quality of the hotels, many being just
a short drive/ bus ride to the slopes. (Nearly all our hotels operate a minibus service to and from the slopes.)
The weekends are the most popular with the local Spanish market but mid-week you can enjoy the slopes all to yourself.
Skiline is able to offer very good prices for both week long and short stays and we display both prices on our hotel web pages. The best
arrival airport for Formigal is Zaragoza which is just 90 minutes transfer time so ideal for short breaks. Ryan Air
offers a daily service from Stanstead where we have booked flights for as low as 1p. (One penny!)
Our prices for our hotels in Formigal & Celer include return transfers from Zaragoza to resort, a lift pass for 6 days
(less if short breaks) so just add the cost of the flights to our prices and you have a package. Its as simple as that!
Short breaks
The keys to finding a good short break ski holidays are: firstly find a resort where the hotels will offer stays shorter than 7 nights;
second, find a resort that's only a short transfer from the airport; and finally find an airline that offers good priced flights!
Formigal and Celer offer all three.
Formigal Ski Resort
Formigal has a total of 105.5km of piste on 82 runs, 6 green, 17 blue, 29 red and 28 black. The lifts total 22 with a capacity of
35,700 skiers per hour. There are 4 main arrival points for the slopes all with free parking. Most of the hotels run shuttle
services to and from the slopes each day. The village height is at 2200m with the highest skiing at 2200m.
The immaculately groomed pistes have unsurpassed levels of safety and comfort. A high capacity lift system, with hands free lift
ticket system incorporates the very latest in safety preventing inadvertent access to slopes beyond the ability of the skier.
In its search for excellence, Formigal has constantly updated its facilities and activities to offer all the latest trends in winter sport.
The new Boardercross area has marked trails and banked turns for all the exhilaration of the high-speed competitive descent and the snow park,
which opened in 2006. Even non skiers will find plenty to do from dog sleigh rides or Skidoo. Or the unique experience of night skiing.
Famililies are particularly well catered for; many of the hotels arrange activities for children.
Formigal is a resort with the atmosphere of a traditional village where modern 4-star hotels blend well with local traditional architecture.
Many of the hotels have suites overlooking the slopes, gourmet restaurants and extensive wine cellars. The extensive spar facilities and
heated pools provide a perfect location to relax and be pampered.
The 3-star hotels offer interconnected rooms and menus with children and adults alike.
Many have pools and all the features of a four star but with out the price tag!
