Val d’Isere ski resort information
Val d’Isere is one of Frances most popular ski resorts. It’s a huge linked ski area called Espace Killy which offers over 300km of slopes includes skiing in Tignes. It’s high and snow sure normally with good snow cover from the end of November to early May. Val d’Isere is one of Frances ‘must ski’ resorts offering extensive skiing and snow boarding mainly above 2000m. Both the Tignes side of the mountain and Val d’Isere offer glacial skiing. Ski Line offers a huge selection of catered ski chalets, slope side hotels and self catering apartments for all budgets.
Val d’Isere has 3 main villages, as you arrive in the resort you first come to La Daille; this is an area with mainly self catered apartments but also a few very well located chalets and hotels. There’s are serveral lifts, a bubble and a funicular here that connect to the hart of the ski area. About 2 km away along the valley floor you arrive at the main centre of Val d’Isere where most of the resorts ski accommodation is located. As you head further up the valley about 5km you eventually reach the area called La Fornet where a cable car connects you to the highest point in Val d’Isere. La Fornet is a peaceful hamlet of chalets ideal for those wanting access to a big ski area but with a small village feel.
Buses connect these three villages throughout the day and night with a very reliable service which in peak times runs every 5 minutes or so.

Val d’Isere has a very busy night life with many bars and clubs open late. Dance clubs, live music, and sports bars are to be found here in abundance but it also has some great small and quieter bars. Dicks Tea Bar is a popular late night venue which stays open until dawn. Café Face is also popular with late night party animals.

Val d’Isere has a newly opened sports centre with swimming pool and other sports facilities as well as a good selection of shops and restaurants.
Beginners skiing in ski resort Val d’Isere
The nursery slopes in the centre of Val d’Isere are free for beginners and once you have mastered the basics you are ready to assent to the higher slopes, although there are some great green runs in Val d’Isere reaching them requires a few steeper slopes which the nervous might find a challenge. Most beginners’ choice to come back down via the lift systems as easy runs back to the village are not an option.
Intermediates skiing in ski resort Val d’Isere
Val d’Isere is a perfect choice for intermediate skiers of all levels the choice of skiing is immense and unlike some of Frances big ski areas its possible to ski all corners of the ski area easily in a day via a fast and efficient lift system.
Advanced skiing in ski resort Val d’Isere
Val d’Isere offers the best lift system anywhere for access to off piste skiing which is superb here. The slopes too offer good challenging runs for even the most advanced of skiers. |
