Les Arcs 1950 ski resort information
Arc 1950 is one of the highest of all the villages in this ski area (Les Arcs side) located at 1950m it’s a true ski in ski out resort with no cars as these are parked beneath the resort on arrival. The accommodation here consists of self catered apartments in various sizes and styles from a simple studio for 2 up to larger units sleeping up to 10 people. Les Arcs 1950 is located just below Les Arcs 2000, its high location ensures good reliable snow cover from the beginning of the season in December to the end of the season in early May. The car free nature of the resort makes it popular for families with young children. Some apartments offer a ‘dine around’ or evening meal deal in the local restaurants which are all within easy flat walking distance.
Skiing in Les Arcs ski area offers a huge variety of slopes from the top ski area at 3225m to the lower runs at 1200m. Many of the runs are long and with tree line runs, ideal if the weather closes in.

Les Arcs and La Plagne ski area are now one larger ski area called the Paradiski which together offer 425 km of perfectly groomed pistes, 200 km of which are on the Les Arcs side. The Vanoise express connects the two ski areas between Peisey Vallandry on the Les Arcs side and Montchavin & Les Coches on the La Plagne side.

The night life is more relaxed in Arcs 1950 than in some other Les Arcs villages with a small selection of bars and restaurants and one night club.

Several of the apartment buildings have pools with free access to residents but for families there are free après ski events going on such as marshmallow toasting on open fires, Husky rides and face painting and fancy dress parties all arranged by the resort. For self caterers the resort has a small spar mini market, bakers fast food outlets and shops selling local produce and wines. Beware, the supermarket can be expensive – it’s a good idea to stock up in the hyper markets down in the valley before you ascend – as you’ll save a fortune!
Beginners skiing in the ski resort of Les Arcs 1950
Les Arcs 1950 has excellent nursery slopes located at Arcs 2000 (accessible via a pedestrian lift at the back to the resort). Although Les Arcs does not use the green run classification that other resorts do, many of the blues make ideal transition runs from the beginner’s slopes. It’s possible to ski on long runs without the need to ski reds or blacks. Les Arcs 2000 being located away from the link to La Plagne is often a quieter area so ideal for nervous beginners.

The whole area is ideal for intermediate skiers, 83% of the runs are blue or red in Les Arcs and La Plagne. Nearly all lifts have an easy way down and is one of the reasons that intermediate skiers and snowboarders head for Les Arcs and La Plagne.
Advanced skiing in the ski resort of Les Arcs 1950
Les Arcs has some great genuine Black runs particularly so from the higher lifts; The Aiguille Rouge cable car connects to one such run. But the off piste skiing hear is very good too and unlike in Chamonix which is renowned for its off piste but after good snow fall gets tracked very quickly, in les Arcs the off piste snow can last for weeks.
