La Plagne/Belle Plagne ski resort information
The slopes of La Plagne offer 225km of perfectly groomed pistes and add to this the slopes in Les Arcs and you have the linked area named Paradiski which rivals even the 3 Valleys.
Belle Plagne is one of 11 key villages in the area, of which 7 are purpose built villages at high altitude. The remaining 4 villages are proper villages lower down the valley amongst the trees.
Belle Plagne is located at 2100m to the left of Plagne Centre when viewing the piste map, the runs close by are mainly wide blues so it’s an ideal base for beginners and low intermediates.
We don’t think it really matters which of the main La Plagne villages you choose as your base; all have good access to the slopes and fast modern lifts.
Ski Line offer a wide selection of both catered chalets, self catered apartments and a number of ski hotels in Belle Plagne.
Après ski in the ski resort of La Plagne/Belle Plagne
Belle Plagne has 3 main bars which get lively after dark; The Tete Inn, Cheyenne and Maite Kanter all have a good reputation with the party animals. There are also some good restaurants to choose from.
Activities off the slopes in the ski resort of La Plagne/Belle Plagne
Off slope activities are limited due to the purpose built nature of the resort; we wouldn’t recommend Belle Plagne as a good base for non skiers.
Beginners skiing in the ski resort of La Plagne/Belle Plagne
The whole ski area is a perfect choice for beginners, although green runs are limited to a couple below Plagne centre, most beginners will fine many of the blue runs easy. Belle Plagne has a free beginners lift so don’t buy a lift pass on the first day, as you might not need it. Once the basics are mastered it’s possible to ski the whole area and use every lift without fear that the only piste coming down is a red or worse a black!
Intermediates skiing in the ski resort of La Plagne/Belle Plagne
It’s difficult to think of a resort in France, if not Europe that is better suited to Intermediate skiers. One word describes it - “perfection”. The choice of runs is endless and when you add the runs in Les Arcs too there is enough great skiing to keep you smiling all week. Not only are the runs wide but long too. 80% of the runs are blue or red and ideal for intermediates of all levels.
Advanced skiing in the ski resort of La Plagne/Belle Plagne
Advanced skiers may well discount La Plagne as a good choice, but think again! It’s the off piste skiing that’s the draw for expert skiers and snow boarders visiting La Plagne. Unlike other resorts that attract advanced skiers, the off piste snow remains untracked for days some times even weeks after fresh snow. Compare this to resorts like Chamonix that can be tracked within an hour of fresh snow.
Some of the drops descend 2000m; try the run from Bellecote to Peisey Nancroix.
For on piste the Biolley sector offers the best challenges where some of the blacks are seriously steep.
Snowboarding in the ski resort of La Plagne/Belle Plagne
Avoid some of the slopes above Bellecote as there are a few flat runs, but these can be avoided. We think the La Plagne area has something to offer all levels of snowboarder. Beginners will love the wide varied slopes, so too the intermediates. Advanced free riders should hire a guide and head off piste, but never tackle the off piste away from the slopes as some areas can be very dangerous without the experience of a mountain guide.
