Flaine ski resort information
The main village of Flaine is not the most attractive in France, that’s for sure, but it’s not for the architecture that many Brits head here each winter. Its ski area is similar in variety of terrain as resorts such as Tignes and Val d’Isere but at much better value for money.
Flaine is part of the Grand Massif ski arena and is linked with Samoens and Les Carroz, Flaine is located at 1600m with its slopes facing North and North West so its holds it snow well even on sunny days. The ski area covers 265 km of piste.
Flaine has built up a strong reputation as a family resort, and is particularly popular with those who prefer to self cater.
Ski Line offers a good selection of Self catered apartments of various sizes and a limited number of hotels and catered ski chalets in Flaine.
Après ski in ski resort Flaine
The night life in Flaine is more laid back than in other ski resorts in France, but that’s its appeal to families. The White Pub is popular at happy hour and shows music videos on big screens. There are a few Karaoke bars; the Flying Dutchman is one of the most popular. For families 10 pin bowling is the place to be and the bar here is popular with family groups.
Activities off the slopes in ski resort Flaine
Flaine is not really recommended for non skiers, there’s not much to hold interest here. However it’s possible to take your car or rent one on the ice driving circuit which is something a little more unusual to do. Shopping is limited, so unless you need a new bobble hat you won’t enjoy any retail therapy!
Beginners skiing in ski resort Flaine
The excellent nursery slopes are located right in the village so are the perfect place to learn to ski and are serviced by a free lift. The Progression slopes are plentiful once the basics have been mastered. A newly built beginner’s area with two great green runs allows early beginners to practice controlled turns and stops!
Intermediates skiing in ski resort Flaine
A great variety of slopes makes Flaine and ideal choice for all levels of intermediates with great snow due to its North and NW facing slopes.
Advanced Skiing in ski resort Flaine
You might think that because Flaine appeals to families that advanced and expert skiers and boarders wouldn’t find much of interest in Flaine. Well you be wrong, Flaine has some seriously difficult terrain to challenge all levels of advanced skiers and boarders most of it off piste. (We strongly advise a guide when skiing off piste in Flaine, some of the terrain looks at first glance to be safe, its not!) We particularly recommend the Styx piste, it’s a proper black with some seriously steep (45 degrees) off piste sections.
Snow boarding in ski resort Flaine
Flaine is a natural choice for all levels of snow boarders, due to the variety of terrain and it’s off piste areas. There is a huge terrain park in Flaine and a few small ones for children too.
Top tips from Ski Line for a great ski holiday in Flaine.

Le Ferme du Sartot is owned and run by Irish/Welsh chef Evan Evans-Jones ( I bet you never would have guest he came from Wales with a name like that) now very much an adopted son of France having lived here for 20 years and married to French local who also works with him. Strange that the French should enjoy an Irish/Welsh boy cooking for them but they do, we suggest that you try it too when staying in Flaine. The building is a rustic chalet with a roaring open fire, its well off the beat and track, make a reservation and they'll arrange the taxi for you.

Top tip for speed junkies
Try ice driving... take to the wheel of a Subaru and drive round a ice track as fast as your nerves(or your co drive) will allow and then let the experts take you round for a spin hitting a top speed of 110km per hour... We really enjoyed this. Booking can be made on 04 50 9082 59 or via the local tourist office.
