STOP PRESS...... Avoriaz has always had a great reputation as a family resort, and things are set to improve this status yet further with the announcement that a new ice rink is to open in 2011/12 season, we also hear whispers that a new luxury water park has been commissioned by the developers of Centre Parcs that will open in 2012/13 season. Also new for this season are two new covered car parks, so self drivers will no longer have to leave cars out in the cold!

Avoriaz ski resort information
The ski resort of Avoriaz is located in the centre of the Portes Du Soleil ski circuit offering 650km of piste and is the largest international ski area in the world as it includes skiing in both France and Switzerland. Other ski resorts in this area include Les Gets, Morzine, Chatel and Champery to name a few.
Avoriaz is a purpose built ski resort but is one of Frances better ones, all properties in the village offer ski in ski out with good access to lifts heading in every direction.
The accommodation in Avoriaz is mainly self catered apartments but we also have a few catered ski chalets and ski hotels. Club Med also has a hotel here which is popular with Ski Line guests.
The whole resort is car free with transfers to the accommodation either via horse drawn sleighs which cost about €10 to reach most of the accommodations; via Skidoo’s; or you can rent a sledge at a small cost to get your luggage to your accommodation.

There are a number of good and lively bars in Avoriaz some of which stay open late. The Yeti and La Yak are very popular with late night dancing. The choice of restaurants is huge, from Pizza’s to traditional mountain fayre such as Raclette and other local dishes.

It’s possible to book skidoo rides after the lifts are closed, the resort organises lots of activities especially on peak weeks.
Beginners skiing in the ski resort of Avoriaz
The nursery slopes are huge and serviced by both chairs and drag lifts and an ideal place to learn to ski or snow board. Once you have mastered the basics there are miles of gentle blue runs below the resort, much within the tree line so ideal when the weather closes in.
Intermediates skiing in the ski resort of Avoriaz
The ski resort of Avoriaz is a perfect choice for intermediate skiers and snow boarders, there’s mile after mile of Blue and red runs across the whole ski area. Braver intermediates may want to try the Swiss Wall which is a steep route to the Swiss side of the mountain, but others routes to the Swiss sector are available for the more timid intermediates.
Advanced Skiing in the ski resort of Avoriaz
Although the real tough runs are scattered about the ski area there is plenty to keep advanced skiers happy. The Swiss Wall will certainly be on your list. There are also some long steep reds around Chatel’s Linga sector.
