Alpes d’Huez ski resort information
The ski resort of Alpe d’Huez is very popular with the British ski market. It’s a high modern resort located at 1860m with a ski range between 1100m to 3300m covering 240 km of piste serviced by 85 lifts. The ski resort of Alpe d’Huez is suitable for all levels of skiers and snowboarders.
Located in the Southern French Alps the main village is located on a glorious sunny plateau which in cold weather is a blessing but later in the season can be a curse on warmer sunny days on lower slopes, however the resort has made massive investments in snow making equipment meaning the slopes stay open until late in the season.

Après ski in the ski resort of Alpes d’Huez
The night time activities in Alpe d’Huez is surprisingly busy with a wide range of bars some getting very busy late on. The après normally kicks off at bars such as Sphere which is located near the bottom of the lifts. The free ride is more relaxed showing sports videos. Later on when you are feeling, shall we say, relaxed, head to the Igloo club to finish the night off!
Activities off the slopes in the ski resort of Alpes d’Huez
Alpe d’Huez has a good swimming pool but note that boxer style swimming costumes are not permitted. There’s also an ice rink and sports centre which all are covered by the lift pass. Why not try your hand at ice driving or hot air ballooning or visit the ice caves. Helicopter trips can be booked to Les Deux Alpes.
Beginners skiing in the ski resort of Alpes d’Huez
This is a resort that would defiantly suit beginners, the huge nursery slopes above the village are ideal to master the basics and once you are ready to go further afield 45% of the runs are on gentle Greens and blue runs.
Intermediates skiing in the ski resort of Alpes d’Huez
The variety of runs is difficult to beat for intermediate skiers and snow boarders with 52% of the piste skiing being on blues and reds. The longest black run in Europe called the Sarenne should be within the capabilities of most intermediate skiers, it drops 2000m vertical on a run that’s 16km long, normally only blue runs have this kind of length. Although it’s a black it’s only really steep at the very top. On certain full moon nights or with a good head torch its possible to ski this run in the dark but only with a guide! The cost is around €65 and includes a simple meal. Boarders note the bottom of this run is quiet flat!
Advanced skiing in the ski resort of Alpes d’Huez
It’s the off piste skiing that’s the main draw for advanced skiers and snowboarders and the longest black run in Europe (see above). Below the Pic Blanc is a good mogul field reached by a long tunnel from the back of the mountain. One or two of the red runs might be classified as blacks in other ski resorts.
