Accommodation records for resort:
Exclusive to us, the small, friendly resort of Vemdalen is probably one of the best family and beginner-suited resorts around. Its suitability is thanks to a network of gentle, uncrowded slopes that all lead back to the ski base, a superb English-speaking ski school and a dedicated ski and play area for children. The accommodation, at the base of the ski area, is located within metres of the slopes so no need for a ski bus in this resort! Resort facilities, also situated around the ski base, include three restaurants, a piano bar, ski hire shop, ski school, coffee shop and a good-sized supermarket.

Vemdalen ski resort information

The ski resort of Vemdalen is fantastic for families with young children or beginner skiers. The small resort centre offers a peaceful base for some easy, gentle skiing, and all the slopes are easily accessible from the main hub.

A total of 45km of pistes are situated here for you to explore, with a lift pass available to serve the full area. Buses link the ski areas and T-bar lifts are mostly used on the slopes, but with un-crowded runs and hardly any queues they make it easy to get around.

The ski area directly above Vemdalen has in recent years had a new mountain opened with more runs, Mount Skalsfjället, served by a new 6 seat chair lift. Vemdalsskalet has the more difficult runs, with easier, more child friendly runs located at nearby resort Björnrike.

The majority of accommodation that we provide here is self catered apartments, but we do have a catered chalet within walking distance of the slopes.

Après ski in the ski resort of Vemdalen

The après ski in Vemdalen ski resort is quite laid back and quiet, with a few bars and restaurants mainly based in the hotels. Bistro offers a range of food, and Baggen is typically the place to go for a livelier night out, with disco nights arranged and often live music.

Activities off the slopes in the ski resort of Vemdalen

Although only a small resort, the ski resort of Vemdalen has a few alternative activities to indulge in other than skiing or snowboarding. Why not try dog sledding, ice climbing, or Icelandic pony trekking? There is also a bowling alley perfect for families, right in the resort centre.

Beginners skiing in the ski resort of Vemdalen

For a complete beginner in Vemdalen it’s ideal. The wide gentle slopes in resort all lead back down to the main base of the slopes, and the nursery slopes and the good English speaking ski school provides great lessons for first time skiers or anyone looking to improve on their skills.

Intermediates skiing in the ski resort of Vemdalen

With a few different ski areas in and around the resort, a variety of terrain and runs ranging in difficulties are available. Vemdalsskalet is the best area for intermediate skiers, and includes a terrain park if you want to try out some jumps or tricks.

Advanced skiing in the ski resort of Vemdalen

The ski resort of Vemdalen perhaps isn’t the best resort to visit if you’re an advanced skier and like challenging runs. With only a small selection of black runs, the hardest being in neighbouring Klövsjö, the area doesn’t offer much for advanced skiers.

Snowboarding in the ski resort of Vemdalen

The long wide runs in this resort are good for snowboarders, and the terrain park and half pipe are great areas to practice your snowboarding skills. The lift serving the terrain park is the new 6 seat chair lift, but most of the other lifts are draglifts and T-bars, so not ideal.
