Salla ski resort information
For a completely different experience to a ski holiday in the Alps, and to discover the stunning wilderness that is eastern Finland, visit the ski resort of Salla. Situated within the Salla region, a 6000km region spanning across to Russia, this ski area boasts natural beauty and peaceful, isolated skiing conditions.
The resort itself is small, located below the main ski hill or fell. The surrounding landscape consists of an expanse of fells, frozen lakes and forests, with some 10,000 reindeer scattered amongst it all.
Skiing here is particularly suited to beginners as the slopes are on gentle hills rather than mountainous terrain. Temperatures are cold, often into double minus figures, and the main winter months of December and January are constantly dark, however lighter, longer days appear towards the end of the season.
The accommodation on offer in the ski resort of Salla consists mainly of cabins, with self catered apartments within them, all dotted around the resort. A half board hotel also resides here.
