Schladming ski resort information
The ski resort of Schladming is at the base of Planai in the Austrian Alps which is in the Dachstein region and is a very beautiful place. This north facing resort is an old but pretty town which has a traffic free square in the centre where you find most of the bars, restaurants and shops. With 91 lifts and 175km of piste, intermediate skiers will enjoy this once ‘World Cup’ venue. The main gondola which is a few minutes walk from the main centre will take you most of the way up the mountain. You can also travel across to one of the 4 peaks, by chairlift and chondola. There is also a bus from the lift base or village to either Hochwurzen or Reteralm. All the mountains are covered by a local lift pass.

There are plenty of bars and restaurants for the Après ski in Schladming. Whilst the bars are said to be lively they are not as lively as some of the other resorts in Austria. Most of the central bars will stay open till the early hours.
Activities off the slopes in the ski resort of Schladming
Non skiers in the ski resort of Schladming will have plenty to do whilst the skiers are up the mountain. There is an excellent swimming pool and Ice rink in Hochwurzen. The town shops and museum are well worth a visit. Also in Hochwurzen there is a 4 mile toboggan run.
Beginners skiing in the ski resort of Schladming
The nursery slopes in Schladming which are near the top of Planai are more convenient for beginners if you are staying in Schladming but tend not to be that gentle to learn on. A bus ride away you will find the nursery slopes in the low altitude Rohrmoos, this nursery area is much bigger and most ski schools will opt for this area.
Intermediates skiing in the ski resort of Schladming
The ski resort of Schladming is perfect for intermediate level skiers. With the extensive red runs across all 4 mountains you will be able to cruise down them all. There are plenty of blue runs as well the Hauser Kaibling Mountain which has a wonderful blue run from top to bottom which allows you take in the wonderful wooded north facing slopes.
Advanced skiing in the ski resort of Schladming
There are a few black runs in Schladming. There is also some good off piste skiing from Hauser Kaibling but this is limited. There are local buses to the Dachstein glacier which offers guaranteed snow.
Snowboarding in the ski resort of Schladming
Schladming is very popular with beginner and intermediate snowboarders as the area is ideal for these levels, there are some more challenging runs for the more advanced snowboarders. |
