The world famous ski resort of Kitzbuhel really has everything – superb scenery, atmosphere, style and some of the best skiing around and now great snowboarding options. The nightlife is Vibrant and its one of Austria’s best know resorts. Its home to the Hahnenkamn downhill race. We consider Kitzbuhel best suited to intermediate skiers and is a must ski resort. We feature many top hotels here.
Kitzbuhel ski resort information

Kitzbuhel is a big name in the world of ski, thanks mainly to the famous Hahnenkamm downhill race which attracts ski racers from around the world, but it’s also famous for being a great ski holiday destination too.

One of Austria’s best known ski towns, Kitzbuhel is located in the Skiwelt area with local skiing from Hollersback round to Kirchberg with Kitzbuhel located in the very centre of the ski area.

The skiing covers 170 km of piste with a ski range of between 800m to 2000m with 55 lifts. Now don’t let the height of this resort put you off coming here, the snow is reliable as most of the slopes are North or North West facing and the resort has made huge investments in snow making which covers 59% of the slopes, The Ski Line team have skied here in late April both on and off piste!

Ski Line offer a good range of hotels, many having been in the same family ownership for generations and pride themselves in the service levels offered. These hotels are in all grades from carefully selected pension type hotels that are often quite simple in style but well located; right up to swanky 5* hotels with glorious spas.

The centre of the resort is largely car free within the walls of the old town and the bus service which links to the many lifts stations is frequent and reliable.  The attractive old town has cobbled streets and a lovely atmosphere with horse drawn sleighs, shops, bars and restaurants.

Après ski in ski resort Kitzbuhel

The night life in Kitzbuhel is one of its key selling points with lots of music bars attracting a party crowd to quieter bars playing jazz or soft music. When the lifts start to close things hot up with many slope side bars opening their doors to skiers dancing in their ski boots to DJ’s or live bands. Serveral night clubs in town stay open until late.

Activities off the slopes in ski resort Kitzbuhel

The lift pass allows access to the impressive Aquarena and leisure centre which is great for families. The sports Park offers ice skating with ice hockey matches and bowling. If you like to have a flutter, head for the Casino. It’s possible to reach Salzburg quickly via the train station in the centre of town which is recommended for sightseeing on bad weather days.

Beginners skiing in ski resort Kitzbuhel

Complete beginners have two nursery slopes to choose from, one at the foot of the Hahnenkamm and the other at the Horn which is better for younger children as it catches the sun. Once you have mastered the basics progression on to long cruising blues is possible.

Intermediates skiing in ski resort Kitzbuhel

There is plenty to keep Intermediates happy all week, many want to try the main ski race run, the Hannenkamm that drops 1000m and in places is steep. All areas of the ski area are ideal for skiers and snowboarders of an intermediate level.

Advanced skiing in ski resort Kitzbuhel

Many of the slopes around Kitzbuhel offer off piste skiing next to the pistes and further a field is even better but only with a guide. Some of the reds are long and challenging. The best black runs are around Steinbergkogel with Direttissima which is seriously steep. Other black runs all over the ski area make Kitzbuhel and ideal choice for advanced skiers.
