Bad Gastein ski resort information

The ski resort of Bad Gastein is near the top of the Gastein Valley. Once an old spa town this area has become an excellent ski resort. The centre of the town is widely spread but still compact through the middle. It is a very steep town centre, so exploring can be a challenge. The gondola in the town will take you to the Stubnerkogel area of slopes or you can travel across the town to the chair lift to Graukogel. Local buses connect you from the village to the lift stations. Bad Gastein is a good ski resort for most levels of skier and has more reliable snow as it is higher than some other Austrian resorts. The slopes are nice and open above the trees, but you can also ski through the trees in the lower parts. Bad Gastein has 44 lifts and 201km of piste.

Après ski in the ski resort of Bad Gastein

The Après ski in Bad Gastein can offer plenty of discos and bars, from cosy and friendly to live music with a party feel. There is also a casino if you are feeling lucky.

Activities off the slopes in the ski resort of Bad Gastein

The spa facilities in Bad Gastein are excellent, the town prides itself in this area.

Beginners skiing in the ski resort of Bad Gastein

This ski resort might be quite challenging to an absolute beginner. There are nursery slopes around the area but they can be classed a steep to someone new to skiing. The progression to the blue runs can be tricky but the blue runs are more than easy for more confident beginners.

Intermediates skiing in the ski resort of Bad Gastein

Confident intermediate skiers will enjoy this area immensely. The long runs in all the areas of the valley are well suited. For the more timid intermediate skier you will fine the Schlossalm area more appealing.

Advanced skiing in the ski resort of Bad Gastein

For the more advanced skiers in Bad Gastein there are not many black runs but the red runs in the areas are long and satisfying. If you head to Graukogel this has some more adventurous slopes or you can always go off piste in some of the other sectors.

Snowboarding in the ski resort of Bad Gastein

Whilst Bad Gastein holds snowboarding events, the area is still not well equipped for snowboards. There are drag lifts dotted around the area but these can be avoided with planning. There are no areas specially for boards and no snow parks.
