The ski resort of Axamer Lizum is a good all round convenient resort for families and is only 20 minutes from Innsbruck airport. The village is a pretty, and has a traditional feel with the outstanding back drops of the Tirolean Alps. With nine lifts and funicular this once Olympic ski area can offer all levels some great skiing. Most of the year, when the snow is good, you can ski back down to the village via red and black runs. There is not much accommodation directly in the village, just one 4 star hotel, but the surrounding villages and the 7 surrounding ski areas are all linked by a good bus service. The various ski bases are scattered throughout the valley varying from 15 to 60 minutes distance by bus.

The après ski in Axamer Lizum is the normal lively atmosphere that is expected in most Austrian resorts. There are a hand full of bars which are based mainly in the surrounding hotels and one dedicated pub. Two night clubs can be found in Alte Muhle which has lots of late night dancing. Disco Beiler on Pafnitz is also a top favourite and stays open till 2am.

For the non skiers in Axamer Lizum there is a cinema and bowling in the neighbouring village of Axams, there you will also find a gallery and a museum. In the village you will be able to enjoy the swimming pool and gym, and if you feel like spoiling yourself you could have a beauty treatment or massage.

The base area in Axamer Lizum has some lovely wide sunny area for beginners to start their lessons on. There is also a nursery slope area in Axams with drag lifts.
Intermediates skiing in the ski resort of Axamer Lizum
Intermediate skiers in Axamer Lizum will love this area as their ski base. There are 40kms of piste on wide sunny slopes which are ideal for cruising. This however can be a little limiting for experienced skiers and therefore you may want to consider purchasing a Glacier Lift pass which will allow you to travel across the eight surrounding areas. This pass will also include the beautiful glacier lifts in Stubai where you can guarantee the skiing all year round.
Advanced skiing in the ski resort of Axamer Lizum
The more advanced skier in Axamer Lizum will love the black runs along with the Olympic slalom run from Birgitzkopfl. Most of the other runs are not as challenging but the stunning scenery is breath taking. Local guides will also love to take any skier off piste from the top of Hoadl where there is a large amount of fresh fallen snow.

Snowboarding in Axamer Lizum is great for those who enjoy the natural terrain. The area has some great areas for you to take some long cruises down the mountain. With all the natural pipes from the gullies to drop in and out of and the great hits and big banks this is certainly a great place to board. |
