Canillo ski resort information

The ski resort of Canillo is a small, quiet resort in the Grandvalira ski area. Situated at a height of 1500m, this resort only has a few runs. However it does have an 8 person chairlift giving easy access to the vast array of pistes and runs throughout the Grandvalira area.

Accommodation in Canillo that Ski Line offers is limited and quite basic, with the option of half board hotels or self catered apartments. If you’re looking for a budget ski holiday with plenty of runs of varying levels to explore, it’s a great place to stay.

In the resort most things are usually within easy walking distance to wherever you stay, including the main chairlift to the slopes. No transport should be needed within the resort, but if you fancy a trip to neighbouring Soldeu or El Tarter, then a ski bus service runs a few times a day to take you between the resorts.

The ski resort of Canillo is one of great charm, boasting old churches and mountain houses traditional to the region. Being in the Pyrenees it also means this resort is mostly sunny and with good snow conditions, so skiing here is pleasant.

Après ski in the ski resort of Canillo

Nightlife in Canillo consists mainly of pubs and bars, so for those looking for livelier nights out head to nearby Pas de la Casa, where you can dance the night away! Parties are often held in one of the local pubs, Camping Pla, and there are a variety of restaurants in the ski resort of Canillo to taste Andorran cuisine, as well as some international dishes.

Activities off the slopes in the ski resort of Canillo

For a break from skiing, a large sports centre called the Palau de Gel, offering swimming, tennis and skating, amongst other activities, will keep children entertained for hours, and is also a haven for non-skiers. Alternatively visit Andorra’s capital, Andorra La Vella and enjoy some tax-free shopping or visit the biggest thermal spa in Europe, Caldea Spa.

Beginners skiing in the ski resort of Canillo

The skiing in Canillo isn’t hugely ideal for beginners, with only a couple of runs available to use in the El Forn area at 2000m.

Intermediates skiing in the ski resort of Canillo

Intermediate skiing in Canillo is probably most favoured, with an exciting black run that’s more suited to being a red. Being in the Grandvalira ski area you have access to nearby areas such as Riba Escorxada, where more extensive runs are available.

Advanced skiing in the ski resort of Canillo

In the ski resort of Canillo itself, advanced skiing isn’t widely accessible; however there are some great off piste runs for you to challenge yourself on, as well as the difficult red and black runs in Riba Escorxada.

Snowboarding in the ski resort of Canillo

The selection of blues, reds and black runs in the surrounding ski area are great for snowboarders, as is the nearby snow park in El Tarter.
