Skiing as a family has to be one of the best holidays for a family group, particularly if the whole family is learning to ski or snowboard for the first time. We know that if the parents already ski, getting the children up and running for their skiing will be a top priority for you.
First family ski holiday where to go
 Choosing the right ski resort for the first trip is important as not every ski resort is ideal for total beginners to either learn to ski or snowboard. Ski resorts that Ski Line particularly recommends for families with young children on their first or second trip are listed at the bottom of this page. If your children are young and you are concerned about the cold, choose a ski resort that’s not too high and where the majority of the ski slopes face south. Good ski clothing will help keep the little ones warm even on the coldest of days. Many of our Chalets offering family skiing holidays offer ski lessons in the afternoons to avoid the colder mornings which is ideal for younger children.
Where to stay on a family skiing holiday
Catered ski chalet holiday have always been popular with families, they are far less formal than hotels and not as much hard work as a self catered holiday in apartments that can have restricted space. (Not all are small though, some newer developed apartments are now offer good living areas!) Since that start of the economic down turn, families in particular have been looking to add value and make savings on the annual family ski trip. Club Med have hotels in 23 ski resorts in Europe, 2 of their Club hotels offer child care for babies (from age 4 months to 23 months) Children aged 2 years to 3 years who are still too young to learn, can still get lots from the holiday with play areas in the snow which are overseen by Club Med’s great childcare team. 4 to 10 year olds who are either beginners or know how to ski can take part in either half or full day ski or snowboarding lessons and advance through the grades with children of similar ability. Once children reach the ages of 11 years to 17 years Club Med really comes into its own. Full day ski lessons and end of week ski races all add up to the ‘holiday of the year’ for older children. After skiing has ended it doesn’t end for the youngsters as parties, games and shows continue into the evening.
